For Immediate Release! CSAAA- Shotgun ban!!

Also you would think the organizations and gun sales businesses perpetrating this nonsense would know the definition of shotgun bore diameter. This is like saying a target crowned .22-250 is not .22 caliber because it tapers out at the muzzle. They need a lawyer with a brain to advise them.

Regarding the 20mm, no, I don't think so.

The entire bore of a barrel cannot be determined based on 1% of its make up.

99% of a barrel consists of the bore and chamber.
1% of a barrel is the threading for the choke.

The bore is often determined as the widest point, no matter what percent of the length it makes up. A 75mm squeeze bore that is reduced to 55mm is still a 75mm caliber.

This situation may be subject to interpretation, but don't believe for a second that the 1% isn't significant.

I am with you on this. Posts like these are done in extremely poor taste...
I am sure that if they had contacted the government authorities that prescribed this OIC they would have gotten this answer without making the community appear like we are all bloodthirsty and our government is coming after us...

IKR... nobody is coming after "us"

4 glorious days since 1500 guns were banned

I wonder if dealers that sell shotguns possibly deemed illegal will come to the bat if a customer get caught and charge with a prohibited at+ 20mm bore.

Muzzle devices whether permanently fixed or not, do not count towards bore dimensions. That is a well established standard.

Doesn't affect fudds until/unless they get mail from CFO. Most of the fudds aren't even members here or use internet.

Bore size is determined by the largest diameter present in the bore, therefore the threaded portion used to accept a choke is the bore diameter size. If that portion of the barrel exceeds 20mm the fuddgun is now a prohibited device and it is a criminal offense to transport or use it unless you fall under the narrow definition of a sustenance hunter.

False.

I haven't received mail from the CFO yet my AR15 falls under the legality of the recent OIC. Ignorance of the law cannot be used as a defense against it.

I think you have to interpret the law the way its written. it's sounds like your guessing with your math and doubtful that would hold up in court. The OIC is written poorly and should be rescinded, clearly.

Here come the FUDDS!! Poor taste? WT actual $#@& are you talking about? no one here is bloodthirsty. This overbearing, opportunist government that you obviously voted for is certainly coming after us. They are stealing property from law abiding citizens and turning us into criminals in the process so check your virtuous outrage at the door. The only two things in poor taste I have seen all night is your post grovelling to "the authorities" and a picture of PM blackface Castreau.

For those of you saying 0.5mm here and there wouldn't matter, let me present you the case of HK P7.

This is a handgun that officially has a barrel length of 105mm precisely according to manufacturer specs.

However, this handgun is restricted in Canada because the way barrel length is measured in Canada is by inserting a rod into the muzzle until it comes in contact with the breech face, and in this method of measurement, HK P7 qualifies as R due to a barrel length of just over 106mm.

So yes, they care about a millimeter here and there.

I doubt that they intended to ban one of the most popular hunting long guns in Canada, but it sounds like they did. If they are forced to admit their mistake, that opens the door of doubt for many other technical oversights, (big bore bolt action, etc.), and discredit the entire document.

Like how they banned any mag > 10 rounds for the 10/22?

Their goal is and has always been to ban all guns eventually in Canada as far back as early 1970's. They don't care about the backlash or practicalities of their laws and decrees. If this catches a big chunk of popular firearms in Canada, in their minds, even better.

I’ve heard of choke bore, cylinder bore, but never thread bore. Whip up a frenzy over ignorance of firearms in the hopes of bringing back sales to the retailers. These are the same guys that trashed a wonderful organization that promotes wildlife and preserving hunting opportunities just to sell more AR platforms. Not saying ARs should be banned but.... they haven’t earned my respect recently.

"Not saying the AR should be banned BUT"

Blaming a hunk of steel and aluminum as if it's a rabid dog all by itself is not very intelligent.
Move along.
You aren't welcome hereabouts.
