short range hunting scope options

I've used a 1.75-5 Vortex Diamondback for a few years while hunting in thick bush and am a big fan of it. I recently picked up a Leupold FX-ll Ultralight fixed 2.5x as I never used the diamondback above 1.75. At 6oz the Leupold is a great way to lighten your rifle if you don't need adjustable magnification.

we, I ended up grabbing a Busnell engage 2-7 x 36
seemed like a good price for a budget scope.
It's going on the lee enfield I am shaving the barrel down to 19" and dressing up for hunting and should fit the bill

saw a bushnell 3500 elite somewhere in my searches so might grab it too. I think it was a 1-6 but probably also a 2-7
Couldn't find what I want in the leupolds and the vortex that turned my fancy would see me needing a new mount..... just bought a 1" ADM recon cantilever mount.
the search continues for scope #2

The Leupold VX-3i 1.5-5x20 is a darn good package, or, if you like Bushnell, get the same for both

I actually got to look thru one at the local gun shop and I just don't think a 20mm is for me.
I prefer a bit wider field of view

If you can track down an older Nikon Monarch 1-4 it's a true 1x power on the bottom end so it has nice wide full view. It's also has a 20mm objective but it gathers light well and has nice glass. I have the African version with the German #4 reticle and I really like it.

I like the german #4 reticle , I'll keep my eye out for said Nikon.

I like the 1-6 tactical scopes like those from Vortex, bushnell and leupold but the price tags kinda put them out of my reach right now. I also would need a 30mm or 34mm mount and I just bought an ADM recon 1" so I'm kinda limited to a 1" tube for the scope body.
right now I'm waiting for the bushnell engage 2-7x36 to arrive and I'll assess it and see if it's worth buying another one or I save my money for a bit and get something a little higher end. ($750. to $1000)

I just got my Bushnell forge 1-8x30 scope and I have to say I’m impressed with the bang for buck ($600). Haven’t had it out in the woods yet, but so far I would give it a thumbs up.

For your purposes and sounds like your on a budget, when you say 1" tube, I think Bushnell Elite 4200 1.5-6x36mm. Great glass! But the challenge would be to find a good used one...

just had to share this story from today, i instantly thought- frick i need a Scope!

usin the 375BB an peep sights, was a perfect afternoon stalk for it, along a creek with black berry an good cover, i spooked a sambar an never seen it til later, an then looked up to see a fallow doe in a greyish colour up creek , with the binculars check an i took a few steps forward to get a solid lean, she took flight an didnt stop. Hindsight, point and shoot - off hand.
but its made me wonder , an likely carry the 303 way more often over this model 94, simply because the 2-7x33 scope...... irons need almost perfect light in my opinon, this was too late in the afternoon to just point an shoot at a deer shaped stump, so it needed confirmation, it was only 50m away maybe.

i wonder how much light the x20 lets in compared to the 33..?

I was at my range this morning to fine tune some rifles, and for the fun of it, I tried my Ruger M77-RLS MKII .358 Carbine at 300 yards. This is not a rifle I would choose for that distance but just wanted to see how it would do using a Leupold VX-3 1.75-6X32mm and utilizing the B&C reticle... it did better than I expected. This scope is also a very good choice for a short range optic, as you give up very little on the low end, but I find a significant difference on the high end, more than the numbers would indicate, as compared to the VX-3 1.5-5X20.

Do you have it in hand or was it bought online? I was considering one of these scopes but I couldn't find much in the way of reviews.

One of my favourite decent scopes that is also cost effective are the Burris E1. Might be worth checking one out and if interested look around for a sale. Often a Burris deal can be found. The next step up is a Zeiss Conquest or whatever the current equivalent is. The Conquest was Another favorite before the prices seemed to go crazy.

this in firefly or the elite 1.25-4x24 in german reticle with a small dot are great but a very well kept secret ...
