PAL Wait Time

Tried to buy a 1911 online yesterday, but they still required a photo of my license. Anyone know any online retailers that don't need one?

Haven't actually bought a new one since maybe 18 months ago. But you do realize you have to show your license, right?
If you cant do that in person what other options?

What? I said online, not in person.

And you don’t have to show your license, all you need to do is provide your license number and the expiry date. That’s it. Its the sellers responsibility to call and make sure it’s valid.

In fact, if you go on #######, it specifically states that you SHOULD NEVER show a photo of your license. Criminals are stealing the photos and using them to purchase guns for themselves.

Well I'm not completely up on what you can withhold, and what you cannot,

I purchase my firearms legally, and in good faith with legitimate businesses.
I presonally dont have an issue with 'showing' my license.
Your mileage may vary.

Should you send a pic of your license to a random person on the EE? Probably not.
Gunspot lacks the weight of any official office, as far as I know,

Again, your mileage may vary.

I sent in paper renewal end of Feb. Received letter 2 weeks ago from RCMP saying they no longer accepting paper, will do online only. Check online to see status of application. Problem with my account is I can't seem to log in online, so I did paper. Last Friday I saw RCMP charged $80 to my credit card, so looks like my paper renewal application was processed. But considering they would have received it end of Feb, they're obviously very backed up.

The clearest information I have at this time is that the CFP is still not processing new applications.
Yes, there is news floating around that some people are starting to receive their PALs (new applicants just the number, not the printed card), however, their paperwork was received and data processed prior to February 26th, as that was the last day CFP staff entered paperwork into the system.. Anyone whose paperwork was received after that date is caught in enternal limbo until the CFP starts processing new applications again.

FYI. My physical license arrived in the mail today. It was approved days before Miramichi shut down due to COVID. Looks like they fired the printers back up.

Got my license in the mail today.

Application received in Miramichi: February 12, 2020
Application showed up online, credit card charged: March 5, 2020
Application approved, license issued: March 16, 2020
..
License arrived: May 19, 2020

That's great news...did you have to talk to anyone to get approved? Were references called or were you just approved?

Nope, I never called them and they never spoke with me nor my references. I was just approved.
I did use my parents as my references though, that may have helped because if your parents trust you with a gun, you probably shouldn't need to call in.
