Insane price for Mosins rifles

What blows my mind more so is how many buyers are stuck in a time warp, don’t get me wrong I too see how insane prices are getting, I just bought a Russian produced M44 for $600 in March and sold it the other week overnight for $750. I partially regret it because I’m noticing that numbers apparently still climbing and the odds I’ll get myself another one that clean are slim to none. It’s still better than the guys who approach you proclaiming how he once bought one for $60 and your $300 91/30 is outrageously overpriced.

That said though everything seems to go that way, I’ve noticed kijiji is turning into a gongshow of everyone thinking everything they own is collectible or has potential, but in the next breath everything I post for sale seems to be worth less than dirt.

Markets are a strange place full of strange people.

We aren't stuck in a time warp, we just refuse to pay way too much for a firearm. That's not to say I think the prices shouldn't have gone up, but its more than I am willing to pay for one, which takes me out as a buyer unless the price comes down. Enough people refuse to pay the modern price, it will come down as no one will buy it.

As mentioned many are being priced out of the hobby, and for example I have the funds to play, I just don't want to play at these prices, lots of other stuff I can spend my money on which will bring me more satisfaction at a similar price. I bought more guns my first year collecting with a significantly lower paying job than I have in the last three years (And I started collecting in the last decade). It just doesn't make sense to pay 1k for some generic firearms which don't hold much value to me.

The former relationship between once cheap milsurps (and I can remember the $25. Mosins and the $45. Swedes) and expensive factory sporting rifles has been inverted. With the decline of opportunity and interest in hunting, plus the aging of the hunting population, the real bargains these days are sporting rifles. And I don't mean the cheaply made brand-new Chinese/USA stuff at Canadian Tire. I mean, as one example, the quality (Swedish steel and French walnut) Husqvarna rifles that haven't increased in price much since the 1980's and are still commonly available. And all sorts of genuinely cheap but high quality European sporting rifles keep pouring in through importers like Tradeex. (Granted most need a bit of TLC, but a lot of gun owners enjoy that sort of work.) I dropped out of the milsurp market years ago. I still have an interest in looking at, handling and sometimes even shooting exceptional vintage military rifles, all matching WWII sniper rifles for instance, but in general at gun shows I now just walk right by the tables with their thousand dollar Lee-Enfields.

Tiger Arms in Coquitlam has a crate of Mosin 91/30 in the grease and is selling the rifles in the cosmoline for $429.99. I saw these there yesterday Saturday 2020-06-06. Yes, prices are going up.

Eagle...don't you dislike M/N's?
I could be mis-remembering though.

The price of Milsurps in generally have skyrocketed in the past few years. While some Milsurps have increased rather gradually, others have jumped in price in very large incriminates. Look at the price of a mix master Italian M1 Garand!

So true. Mausers, Enfields, LE of all types, Carcanos, Arisakas have all gone upwards in price. Especially for examples in good to better condition.

I have a few still (a M91/30 and a M38). I used to also have every major non-sniper variant the Soviets issued as well (1891 Dragoon, 1891 Infantry, M44) as some of the Imperial issued ones (M91 Infantry) and Finnish variants (M28/30). On top of that I have used many of the other variants I don't own or haven't owned (M39, M91/30 snipers, Finnish M91s). I don't think the action is the best and have argued that before (likely what your thinking of), but the rifles themselves are historically interesting to me and I enjoy using them. I also think they are very accurate milsurp rifles when they have good bores and fed good ammo.

Lots of interesting history can be found in those rifles you can't as easily trace in many other firearm variants. For example the Finnish M28/30 I had was made on a 1919 Tula receiver (one of the rarest receivers for Mosin Nagant production and I really wish I had it with the original barrel because the markings on those were exceptionally unique). To get that receiver the Finns would have had to acquire it from someone who had captured it in the Russian Civil War who then sold/traded it to the Finns in the 20s/30s (or possibly a Russian defector).

I am not really too interested in buying them at the moment, right now I have other things I am drooling over (Lugers, C96s, Krags, Siamese Mausers, P49s, Argentine Mausers, etc.). But certain variants at the right price would interest me (for example a 1919 Tula, or a Sestroretsk made one). But 400$ for a standard average refurb M91/30? No way am I going to pay that.

Cool Eagle. Nice sound off.
I like the cut of your jib, lol. Tastes aren't far off mine. Argentine and Peruvian rifles always end up in my collection. Columbian and Brazilian are always about 30% higher for some reason... still Teutonic masterpieces.
I'm going to shoot them, so 1200 for a Brazilian is a tad rich for me when I'm already set up for 7.65 X 53...Argentine will be fine thanks.

Seeing Mosins up for auction right now with bids in the $700 range!! Should have never sold my M38 trying to get a Mosin while I can still stomach the price but even they seem harder to find thee days

I just wish interammo could get the baikal makarovs in again.
Those were great little pistols. Dirt cheap. Crazy accurate. Extremely reliable.
I never would have sold mine but ammo became hard to find and stupid pricey after the import sanctions on Russian hardware.

Interammo brought in some .380 cal makarovs too

Sold them for $400 each only a few years ago ... brand new with extended restricted barrel length.

Sigh ... I overthink and I underbuy
