Vintage sniper rifles

So old school sniper rifles aren't on the cheap end of firearms purchases and the scopes don't help with pissy wife either. Good to know. Thanks

The refurbed PU Sniper rifle (with scope) is, perhaps, the only truly affordable genuine WW2 Sniper rifle. I think I payed $650 for one, about 5 years ago, from a major dealer. Perfect bore, unused since refurb, I often see 3 or 4 shots in a 5 shot group clustering around an inch (with different surplus ammo). If you can find one today for $1000 that would still be very good value. Most other WW2 Sniper types are the object of much fakery and a lot of study is necessary before a first purchase. A well done replica of one of the higher end types is a good alternative, particularly if shooting it quite a bit is your goal.

I have a Long Branch No4 MkI (T) made in 1945. The scope is matched to the rifle with the scope number, C119, stamped in the wrist. It came with the transit box, leather scope cap and scope case. I bought it in 1975 when I was 17 from Mr. Gill the Geography teacher at my high school. He sold it to me with the understanding I would use it. I paid $100 for it.

There is a list of these rifles that would welcome your contribution.

Would be interested in a Mosin PU as the other snipers are all well outside what I’m willing to pay. Any ideas where to find one. I’ve seen them come up here but not frequently

The first one of these I saw was in 1973, being held by a serving soldier at the local Secondary School's fair - the best part of living in Darlington, UK was being just down the road from Catterick. I was 6 and absolutely in awe.

As an Enfield collector this rifle is my holy grail. In my time I had actually only ever held 2 of these in my hands. One at a local Island gun show, when I was going through a divorce and could buy and this one which came to me when I was called to consult on a sizeable Enfield collection for an estate. It was offered to me a a price I couldn’t refuse so I sold a sizeable chunk of my collection to acquire it. I can only imagine what it might be worth now. Not that I’d ever sell.

The fun is collecting the "bits" of the kit :)

Very nice looking piece of kit!!

The stupid cleaning brush and bottle is the hardest to find.I never did find one for a decent price.

Agreed. Same as the chamber cleaning stick and cleaning kit. Before the “internet” the sticks and cleaning kit were just bog standard bits. After they suddenly were all for the L42 and worth 5X as much. As such these slots go unfilled in my kit.
Value wise for a complete kit?? My guess would be something slightly north of $20,000.00 (ish).

Chamber stick and cleaning kit are more readily available in the UK. Cleaning kits show up on ebay UK (one on there now for 39GBP). I think chamber sticks can be bought from Fultons.

I need the lens cleaning brush and bottle but unwilling to pay the hundreds of dollars they go for. I made a clone from a Swedish Mauser bottle. Also need lens tissue & rifle case which I have never seen for sale. The IWS night vision scope would be nice but again expensive and rare (let me know if you have any ideas on where to get). I do have the soft case.
