Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

June 11 is a good sign. That would mean they’re only about 8 weeks behind now. Here’s to hoping they are working Saturdays. Someone above put it well, it’s criminal to provide this lacklustre service when the other provinces are able to process in 1-2 days.

It is Ontario, the most populous province. They extended License Plate stickers, Health Cards and Ownership for Ontarians because Service Ontario was closed for so long. Many haven't received the renewal slips yet. There is a backlog.

They were approaching the 2mos mark BEFORE covid......

The run on guns started before Covid got here... some gun shops were sold out for a while. Then a ton of Restricted's were sold while they shut down.

Plus, Alberta doesn't have 13.6M people and the highest Restricted ownership like Ontario. I'm sure Alberta has 10 people working for 4M people and Ontario has 15 people for 13.6M.

Not making excuses, but it's just the reality of the situation. I've never seen 50 people waiting outside a Service Ontario office, until now. My Mother hasn't received her renewal papers for her Driver's License or Health Card yet (expired 5 weeks ago). Ontario just extended everything.

Yeah but they work in Orillia. Not exactly the hot bed of COVID 19. They dont interact with the public. You dont go to see them to get a transfer. They sit in an office with a computer

Seller called in June 2, I called in June 3. August 10th approved.

Now I got to go pick it up, then wait for the registration certificate.

The retailer emailed me this am to say they initiated the transfer with the Ontario CFO. I'm sure this will be 10 weeks minimum. Last three were in June/July last year and they took 30 days iirc. I'm in ON as well.

And then there's the reg cert....

Honestly what I don't understand, is that if we're already vetted by way of our RPAL, why do have to have to get permission on every one we buy? Wouldn't it just make more sense to just automatically transfer them? Maybe have the CFO stop and do whatever it is they do now when someone gets to 5 or 10 restricted firearms in order to weed out out any possibility of abuse or whatever? It's kinda like having a D/L and having to ask permission to drive on the 401 (tho some should require it).

But as it stands, I don't understand what it is they need to do other than registering the transfer of ownership and issue the reg cert. Something surely an automated system could do.

Cheers,
EZ

I received notification this afternoon that the transfer had been completed for a pistol I acquired from a friend n Quebec. The process was initiated on June 10th, so two months to the day for a private Quebec to Ontario transfer.

It was a busy day for the CFO office. I had three transfer approved emails. Two private transfers from June 3, one from ON to ON, the second from AB to ON received before 9 AM. Then before 10 AM another private ON to ON started June 5. I also called for an ATT for the first transfer and met another member to complete a trade. Then picked up another pistol from a LGS started June 16 that was approved on August 7. Arrived home and Canada Post left another at my door at 5:45. I have lots of new semi-autos to try out soon.

June 16th to August 7th. I am starting to have some hope for my June 26th store purchase. Thanks for the update.
