Ruger American Ranch

Yes, a Ruger American Ranch 5.56 (16"bbl). I have a bunch of 55gr factory ammo that I'll start off with to break things in.....

The price on these rifles is almost back to where it was before the buying frenzy after the OIC prohibited the AR platforms. Had seen some retailers were selling them well north of $650 that they were originally selling them for as they became scarce.

To you current owners, wondering what AR pattern 10 shot magazines you would recommend. Or perhaps the better question is what magazines would you avoid. A local retailer (Bullseye) has Mission First Tactical LAR-15 pistol magazines.

Would prefer to pick up the rifle, a couple of spare magazines, and the bulk Federal American Eagle .223 Rem. FMJ (which is already on sale and I need some brass for reloading) in one place to try & leverage a little better deal.

Thanks in advance
Tom

The MFT mags are great.

I really enjoy shooting this rifle....targets are from 100 meters. I have the 5.56 version

I agree! I have mine down to 0.31 moa @ 100 with 68 grain hornady BTHP match and 25.2 grains of 748. It is also throwing 85 grain barnes match burners into a nice 0.52 moa group at 100. Love this rifle

I have a Gamma 5.56 brake on mine, works great. Mine is set up for Coyote hunting. Did a sponge camo paint job, added a Matthews Fabrication cheek riser, Cabelas Covenant 4-16x40mm FFP, and Leupold PRW2 rings. Running Nosler Varmageddons over Varget in range pick up brass, can’t believe how this thing shoots for the money!

I had the chance to shoot the American Ranch AR mags in 5.56, it shoot about mOA, the trigger is horrible and heavy, the action is not that smooth, but in fairness, shot it from the factory box, .. any after market trigger spring just to lighten the pull?

Its capable if much much less than just MOA. I put the Mcarbo trigger spring in mine and im sitting at around 1.8 LB

Does a compact/lightweight rifle like this exist in 6.5 Grendel? Or even 300 blackout i guess. Wanting something small light and more suitable for deer than 5.56.

There's also a Remington Seven in 300blk. I chose that over the american mostly because of the action. Threaded barrel but no box mag, and it looks like the only conversions are badger ordinance for another $350-400. Still happy with it though.

HI - RifleDude has the answer. I have an American Standard and I replaced the trigger spring with 2/3 of a clik-pen spring and used the remaining 1/3 to replace the Safety spring. I just like the thought of having a safety there. I also polished all friction parts (including the pins and holes) on 1000g wet/dry with a bit of oil. Trigger is down around 2.5# with the safety still installed. Some of the 'innards' had rough stamping ridges and polishing all that makes the trigger really smoooooth. And breaks clean. BTW, the bolt had really 'noisy' lathe marks -sounded like a zipper. I polished that off with 400g on an electric sander. 5 minutes instead of 500 cycles!

Whats the damage on those ATRS rings?
I picked up a Ranch in 5.56 and I'm just needing a set of low rings to mount my scope and get her out!

Any other recommendations on budget rail rings for it anyone? I don't want to drop hundreds on rings for a short range varmint rifle.
Any suggestions would be welcome!
I've always been an irons guy but I love this rifle and the concept. I've only ever had single piece dovetail and bolt down type ring mount bases.
Also agree, would have been nice to see a simple set of barleycorn irons on her ;)

You are speaking my language! I wish more rifles came with iron sights, this is a nice looking rifle for the price but the lack of iron sights in kind of a turn off.

I had the Mossberg MVP patrol in 5.56, it had iron sights and AR mags but it still left something to be desired.

The fluted bolt on those were fugly.
