WS-MCR - Ongoing Impressions

Well that didn't take long....I was going to swap out the roll pin for a cotter pin after the weekend. Should have done it prior to the weekend, the rifle didn't even make it to 200 rounds before the roll pin snapped and the firing pin assembly puked all over the inside of the rifle, screwing up the firing pin spring in the process. That roll pin is effing stupid.

Dammmmmn. Sorry to hear that. I actually replaced mine this weekend before I went to shoot and when I took the OEM roll pin out it looked like it was ready to snap. It was all worn down in a couple spots. I guess the only reason it didn’t snap earlier was from regular cleaning and pushing that pin in and out giving it some time before it let go. I estimate I had 1K rounds through mine but looking at the wear, it prolly would have let go much sooner if I didn’t take the BCG apart regularly.

Sorry about your luck with that. I know that feel about the coulda shoulda woulda. Hope you get it back up and running soon.
 
A solid pin will also work better then the OEM role pin. If you notice how robust the original AR18/180 pin is I wonder why this wasn't used in the MCR model.

Have you taken your BCG apart to clean yet? If so, you know that pin you have to tap out with a punch or equivalent to disassemble the BCG, that’s the one the you should replace.

You can use a standard AR15 cotter pin. You can order one from any retailer that sells AR parts. I get mine from True North Arms for a couple bucks. You can look for them in the bolt carrier assembly parts. Standard AR15 BCG cotter pin. The bonus is that you can actually disassemble your BCG without a tool, as well.

Anyone know where to get a replacement bolt and bits ? I didnt have anything break but I just like to keep extra parts on hand
 
I punched out the roll pin and this is what I found:

I tried installing with a cotter pin but it didn't hold the firing pin securely. I replaced it with a solid pin I took from a BCL BCG. That seems to work. I think I would like to see the hole for the pin drilled a little "lower" in the bolt carrier for lack of a better word. So there is more engagement with the firing pin.
 
Thanks for sharing. I’ll have to check mine with the AR cotter pin in as I haven’t checked after shooting this weekend to see if there was any movement. Seemed secure enough when I put it in on Friday.

And damn, good thing you checked and replaced when you did. How many rounds through her so far?

Post #81 shows how the pin allowed the firing pin to come out and jam up the action. It wasn't even 200 rounds before this happened. unprofessional opinion, using a roll pin is a huge mistake.
 
New bolt release and a golden nugget from Range Warrior Accessories. I will say the packaging and quality of it are top notch.

I started getting light primer strikes at about 600-700 rounds or so. Found the rollpin used to keep the firing pin in place had some odd deformation. I just reinserted the rollpin at a different orientation and it's running again. The bolt hold open works perfectly on E-Landers but is iffy on the Crossmags, which usually hold it open, until I remove the magazine. Not a single FTF or FTE though, and the gun is very accurate.

The buttstock is craptastic. I broke it clearing a jam. Fortunately It has a mil spec buffer tube so it was easy to source a quality replacement. I did the ar 15 25 cent trigger job it turned out great.

Take a look at the bunch of posts earlier in this thread, you’re gonna want to replace that roll pin altogether with something else. I used an AR cotter pin and it’s just fine.
 
Just why is it so hard to get something like this that costs twice what a Norinco AR used to cost to perform even 1/10th as reliably? I was hoping that by now WS would have fixed the roll pin firing pin issue...

I don’t know about that so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt because I feel first gens of anything unfortunately find flaws from the first owners.

Just like when car manufacturers change a brand of car and we are told not to buy a first year of anything until the flaws are worked out.
