WS-MCR - Ongoing Impressions

Just got mine, first impressions:
Decent for the money esthetically;
Sharp corners at the top of the pistol grip have already drawn blood; and
trigger is heavy AF.

Anyone have a list of possible mods? So far I am going to swap the flash hider, stock and trigger out. Will the triggertech Combat AR fit?

Also, has anyone replaced the barrel yet? I'm curious what is possible to do if you strip the receivers down and use better components if it is worth the effort.

Would a solid pin from tna work as opposed to the roll pin from factory or is a standard cotter style ar 15 better choice.?

Sold the Wk and pulled trigger quick on a wsmcr that were avail not to far away.

About 300rd through
No issues.
Changed firing pin retaining pin when I first got the rifle, changed the aliexpress butt stock, a2 grip, swap trigger to geissele (it was too heavy for me).

Very solid rifle so far. I'm very happy with it.

yes the Triggertech fits with a little grinding on the bolt lock back bar

After I posted about a new folding stock for the MCR, someone pointed out in another thread there is already a Canadian made folding adapter for buffer tube stocks, the Matador Sidewinder adapter. So there's another Made-In-Canada option for everyone :)

Guys I need some help / explanation, bear in mind I’m a noobie when It comes to most firearms. I’m a left handed shooter, my only firearm up to now was a left handed 870 express. I should be receiving my mcr any day now, I know the safety is ambi but saw the charging handle?? Is left side only, I’m trying to determine if this is a problem for me. What is the charging handles function, I’m thinking it engages the action?

There are 4 uses for the charging handle:

1. To remove a round from the chamber

2. To load a round into the chamber

3. To clear a stoppage

4. To show the rifle is empty

The best way for you to think of this is that the cocking handle does all the work that the pump of your 870 did except for when firing as the semi-automatic function of your rifle does the pumping for you.

1. If you have a round in the chamber that you wish to remove (A dud for example) you can pull rearward on the cocking handle to move the bolt to the rear, during which the round should be extracted and then ejected. If you have a magazine in the rifle and you want to keep shooting you can then let go of the bolt and it will go forward picking up a new round.

2. When you place a loaded magazine into the rifle if you don't have a bolt release catch there are two possible ways to use it
- A: If the bolt is already locked to the rear you can pull rearward on the cocking handle and then release it. The bolt with the cocking handle will move forward, pick up a round and then you can fire away
- B: If the bolt is fully forward you can pull rearward on the cocking handle all the way to the rear and then release it. The bolt with the cocking handle will move forward, pick up a round and then you can fire away

3. If you have a stoppage, say a case hasn't ejected properly you can remove the magazine, pull the handle fully to the rear and engage the bolt hold open (It's in the magazine well). The Bolt will be kept rearward leaving you free to remove anything unwanted from the chamber area. Other types of stoppages exist, your use of the cocking handle for those will vary.

4. If you are done shooting and you want to show that your rifle is unloaded you can remove the magazine, pull the handle fully to the rear which will extract and eject any round from the chamber and engage the bolt hold open (It's in the magazine well). The Bolt will be kept rearward leaving you free to inspect the chamber area and confirm it is clear. You can then put in a safety flag or store your rifle appropriately

I hope this helps

Thanks for the info Brat, this definitely makes sense of the function.

Being a left hand shooter i would imagine I’d prefer it being on the right hand side for ergonomics and efficiency wouldn’t you agree?

That being said I wonder if there’s a way to switch it to the right side?

It'll be up to you to decide which side works best.

I believe you can place the charging handle on either side.

I highly recommend purchasing a bolt release catch and a new cam pin
