I have been making "duplex" loads. 2 bullets in the case.
For the 357 I tried a 115 gr semi wadcutter on top of a 95gr Campro 9mm bullet. They shot ok, but at 25 yards the 2 bullets were 10" apart.
I then witched to a pair of 115gr SWC bullets, loaded back to back. The inside bullet is upside down. At 25 yards these printed about 2" apart. If anyone want to try this, this load works very well. In 357 I used 10 to 11.5 gr of 2400. Velocity was in the 1000 to 1150 fps range.
I decided to load some 38SPl with duplex loads, but I ran out of the little SWC bullets. The next lightest bullet I had was a cast lead 130 Round Nose. This is too heavy to load back to back, so I went back to loading the inside bullet with the 9mm 95 gr CamPro.
This gives 350 ft/lb of energy (4" barrel) Nothing to sneeze at. A 2" barrel gets 750 fps, for 280 ft/lb.
I then took a sampling of various 2" snubbies and tried them at 7 yards.
I aimed about 2" low, because I knew they shot high. The result was they shot about 4" above POA at 7 yards and the 2 bullets hit about 2.5" apart. The 2 pistols that printed very left were just demonstrating the flinch I developed shooting hot loads in little guns. 7.4gr is over max, so would not plink or practice with that load. But they all fired and extracted just fine.
Examination of the holes in the target show that in every case the lead round nose, the first bullet out of the muzzle, printed lowest, and then the second bullet printed about 2 1/2" higher. This is because of the substantial muzzle flip with these little guns and stout loads.
