7mm Saum

Here is the skinny on the saaum from my perspective.Remington killed the sauum because it would not feed reliably from a 700 none detachable magazine action .The feed rails were inadequate to contain the short fat case ,wsm included . Keep that in mind if you build one.

It's been around for almost 20 years... you are saying this like it is new info...

I have had two rifles in 7mm SAUM, and found it to be a well balanced cartridge... but then so are many other 7mm cartridges. I currently shoot, 7X57, 7-08, .280 Rem, 7X64 and 7mm WSM... no SAUM's in the cabinet.

I shoot all those and the SAUM, as well as others. I think it's a great little round. - dan

Great velocity, I’ve been meaning to try RL26. I have lots of 7828 and it works well in my 280ai for about 2950

Remington developed the saum cartridges with the idea of producing a short, lightweight rifle for hunting. The truth was, more and more people were subscribing to the long-range "hunting" philosophy and they didn't want a short, light, mountain rifle.
The cartridge is a good performer in the "F" class arena and works well for those who use it.
Neither it or the 280AI will match the performance numbers of the 7mm Remington Mag. Loaded to the same pressures, the 7 RM will beat the AI by 150 fps and the saum by about 100. This was true (regarding the AI) forty years ago and it is still true today.
