Favourite hunting cartridge

I'm pretty boring. 308 for most things. I'm more into rifles than calibers and if I have a platform I like I dont really care too much what it's chambered in within reason. I wouldn't use a 22-250 or 243 for moose though. This year I'm looking forward to trying the 338rcm I bought last fall. Will likely use it for deer and moose.

Agree 100% on 308! My Ruger Scout has dropped 2 moose and 4 deer in the last 3 years (only started hunting then).

6.5 x 55. I can use it in southern Ontario. If I were to go moose or bear hunting (doubtful at my age and fitness level) it would work just fine. Devistates Ground-hogs with light bullets. Exceptionally accurate, mild recoil. What's not to like.

I really don't think that I could pick one as a favourite. Maybe the 300 H&H for the panache of it. Then again, the 7x57 and 9.3x62 have a metric ton of panache too.

Been mostly carrying my rifles in 6.8SPC and 375RUM this year.

Last year was the 6.8SPC and the 12.5" barreled Rem 700 PCR short rifle in 308 Win.

Wasn't hunting this morning so took the short 308 Win when I ran my dogs.

270 for many years... from targets to bears it did it all. And then...as kids got older and more $$ was available ..... I branched out :) Now its a 7x57 for deer sized game, 338 WM for bigger stuff, 6.5/284 for LR, 22 Hornet for pests and 22LR for plinking. I do keep an assortment of others on hand , in case I feel the need to try something different. Building a 300 H&H to fill that 30 mag hole in the lineup.

7x57 by a country mile. I am also partial to 6.5x55, 308, 30-06 and 8x57. No need to replace the classics, when the classics work so well.

I like the old ones as well. I hunt whitetail with a .32WS, shoot many of the old ones. Love them all.

I have a hard time with just one cartridge. I have a 30-30 Marlin, was my first rifle. A 7mm-08 Featherweight carbine model 70, and a 35 Whelen in a Rem 7600 with a 20” barrel. Always wanting just one more...

The .280 Remington is the one for me.

I have a couple other sentimental favourites, but they are limited to deer hunting: the .250-3000, the .257 Roberts, and the .30-30 Winchester.
