When will I be able to buy the 6.8 western?

7mm bullets are much more diverse, way more options for everything from varmint to long range hunting to VLD target. Has been that way for decades.

I agree (& do hunt with a pair of 7mms, no 270s), but the average Joe Hunter is well served by both and with the exception of the 7mm RemMag, the 270 offers better access to factory ammo. Has been that way for decades. :)

Saying that ..... There seems to be more bullets coming available for the 270s.

As there was room in the safe at the time, I opted for and took the easy way out. I have a 7x61 S&H in a Schultz & Larsen. A little while back,;) I picked up a WBY S2 Vanguard Blaze-X in .270 Win. A couple more 7's I acquired not too long ago are a full wood Ruger Lipsey model M77 Hawkeye in 7x57 and a M70 Zastava full wood model, also in 7x57. I'm weak willed:).

6.8SPC opened up the lighter end of the .277 range, 110 Accubond out of a 270Win are pretty deadly medicine on small game and deer, 270Win won't handle these 175's though with it's standard twist rate unfortunately, need to buy the whole new cartridge if you want to start shooting those.
That said, I've used the 150 LRAB's in a 270, and they work fine, decent BC, not giving up much to the new cartridge with those.

What does the Western have to offer over the WSM? Looks like it may fit better in a short action mag box.

only gives up a little bit everywhere to the 6.8W

Not enough that I would go buy a new rifle for it...at least in this comparison.
Those TGK are probably one of the worst separating newly made cup/core bullets on the market, I'd rather shoot something better slower lol.

<LOL> ..... I'm sure there are some out there that will take exception to this new King of the 270s.

;)Oh oh!!:p I'm not adverse to some of the newer calibres that have come about over the years and that continue to do so. To the contrary. :)Good deal and keep'em coming. At the time of my start in the game, about the very early 60's, the top picks were the likes of the .270 Win, .30-06 and say, the 300 WM to name a few and that's where my 'accumulation' started. Them and a number of others from that period of time, were my choices. If I was starting out now, my choices would quite likely include a few like the 6.8 Western, 270 WSM and the 300 WSM. However, at this point in time and for time left for field use, I'll stay with what I have. The alternative is to part with what I have and replace with some of the' new kids' on the block. Not about to happen. I did pick up a 6.5 CM, sort of a last kick at the cat. A Remington 700 CDL SF Limited Edition but I call it my Remington MLR, ;)My Last Rifle:p.

I’d sooner grab a 7mm of some sort than this new kid on the block. Honestly. New isn’t always better but mainly more exciting for a short time and then it’s just another caliber. 6.8 vs 7? I’d go with a 7mm hands down
