So, I was just digging around FRT#s as we all do everyday and I noticed something, The CETME L (and LC) have no FRT information, The Model A, B , C and sporter all have FRT info but not the L.

Jumped over to the 95~96 ban and the Cetme L isnt mentioned either, okay I though it could be seen as a variant, but what if it isnt ?
I mean at the time of the 95 ban there were no CETME Ls on the commercial market and it was a relatively unknown rifle from spain, maybe it slipped past the net a kin to the VZ58 and some other fun ones (Like the ar102 for awhile)

Well starting in 2018 I believe a couple of US companies started producing CETME Ls on parts kits with all new receivers and semiauto trigger packs / lowers as well.

Would there be potential for one to be brought in to be sampled by the RCMP lab ? Cetme isnt a firearm model, but more akin to a brand name, (Centro de Estudios Técnicos de Materiales Especiales)

I don't know maybe Im over thinking it and just want a fun roller gun to plink in the bush with

Anything after: 69 The firearm of the design commonly known as the Cetme Sport Auto Rifle, and any variant or modified version of it, will very likely be a variant.

I can tell you for a fact that there is/was a CETME-L at the lab for classification as of January 2020, and that at least one distributor was in talks with the manufacturer to handle distribution. Given the events of the past year, I highly doubt it passed muster, but I can tell you an attempt was made.

The design of the L shares no commonality with the standard CETME/G3 design, and I don't know if it would fall under the umbrella of any existing CETME designations.

I'd love to see the L brought in. There's no commonality between the L and all the predecessor models from CETME, so hell, it's possible.

Better to wait and see where Motiuk's CETME Modelo A goes with the RCMP though. As long as the lab doesn't call it a variant, there's hope for other models.

Actually touching back on this quickly, if it failed the lab it would've been listed as an FRT report by now, so, if you're not bull ####ting. It would be still be under review and unlisted

Years ago I was in talks with HMG so that I could build a sample here, using their flat and a Cetme L kit. Shortly after the RCMP released a letter prohibiting most “receiver blanks” and requiring the rest to be serialized and imported as if they were completed receivers. So the project got shelved and I focused on making a Cetme Model A instead. I was hoping that someone would try getting the Marcolmar Cetme Ls imported and submitted to the lab. As of today, there is no FRT# for either the HMG Cetme L or the Marcolmar Cetme L. I need to submit another ATIP to see what the lab currently has in queue for their review.

I wish a company like irunguns would do a pseudo “raffle” for any new semi-auto rifles where people could purchase a ticket for $20 and irunguns would import 1 of the new rifles to submit it to the lab. If it is determined to be prohibited, a guy loses $20, but if the rifle is determined to be non-restricted/restricted, then it would be a draw from the ticket purchasers and someone would get a brand new rifle for $20, and it would open things up for that new semi-auto rifle to be imported.

Thats actually a pretty nifty idea, I'd be on board for stuff like that.
Hope that Model A you sent in gets the A-Okay as well as the allegedly already in lab for the last year and a half CETME L mentioned earlier this thread

That is a great idea.

i would support this 100% if details were ironed out.

Could see a retry of the RPK and other entries from years past.

Tavor and other manufacturers could have a quicker process into an answer which would support the market better in the long run

I want one of these, even if they were a lacklustre performer in Spanish military service....

I wish they would do it. There are a bunch of rifles that could be brought to the lab to get their blessing, like:
Cetme L
Tommybuilt G36s
Marcolmar UK-59s
LWRC smg-45
SCARs
Marcolmar / vltor PK (tweak their semi-auto PKM to a PK)
Effen 90

I'll pay 100$ for someone to give the Galil Ace a go.

It is mechanically unique from anything on the prohib list, if the Stag 10 wasent an AR10 then the Ace is certainly not a Galil.

The IWI ACE family all got the big prohib when IWI renamed it to the GALIL ACE , by making them variants of the Galil

I've heard that but last time I checked the FRT I only saw entries for full auto ACE variants, I presume imported for the film industry or someone else with special licensing.

I know the RCMP have been ridiculous about classification, but name alone cannot be enough to classify a firearm.

I'd still pay to have someone try re-submitting one if the semi auto variants already had a go, it's just a dream.

Why wasnt this done decades ago? Why are you talking about submitting a gun to the rcmp lab now in times of ban fever? This is clearly a generational problem. Shame on boomers and millennials for disappointing everyone. At least they lived in a pro gun time but did nothing with it. F them.
