Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

I didn’t realize that many firearms were being sold in Ontario on a daily basis. While that is great news for the sport, it is terrible news for transfer wait times.

What do you guys think?

I made a false assumption about the numbers here. The reference numbers issued by the Firearms Program are Canada-wide, not provincial.

Only 38% of RPAL holders reside in Ontario according to the 2019 Commissioner of Firearms Report.

That means of the ~500 restricted transfers per day in Canada, by my observations, approximately 200 restricted transfers happen in Ontario per day.

Assuming that a typical transfer takes 2 minutes to complete, one or two employees should be able to keep up with 200 transfers per day.

I have been waiting almost a month for on transfer now and I don't buy that they are "overwhelmed."

I realize I made a few assumptions here, but I don't think I am entirely off here.
 
I’d bet on incompetence/laziness over anything else. I’ve worked for the town, I know coffee breaks are first and foremost. more like 20 transfers a day, 50 on a hard days work.

Thank you for posting this update. Because of it a friend who is a fellow member here called the CFP office on Thursday. This was to check on the status of a transfer we'd started on August 6, Ontario to Ontario. Wouldn't you know it, it was approved on Monday but neither of us had received the email from the CFO (I know shocking right?).

I've tried to reach the CFO and the CFP today to check on an August 13 started transfer, again within the province but I can't reach anyone. Maybe if there's a change in the government things will improve?
 
Well I was able to get through to the CFP and was told that the August 13 transfer had been approved two hours earlier. I still haven't received an email even though the CFP confirmed email notification was ticked off. Sigh

I'm guessing by "new restricted purchases" you mean from a dealer? New purchases from dealers are prioritized. It's been that way for years. Private transfers always take longer.
