Looking at the pictures they don't look that bad but do seem to have a fair bit of plastic. But how much plastic is on a real MP5?

While some of you might want the non-restricted version with the "fake suppressor" I will take a more original looking model with the collapsing stock and short barrel. I think it looks much better and will add to the fun! :D

Fudd

Same amount of plastic from what i see : Buttstock, forearm and trigger group body

The short-barreled is non-restricted if there is a fixed stock too.

but WHy do you guys want an MP5, never mind one in .22???

because we can't get one

No, the 800$ figure came from our estimates. Assuming we get it imported from the USA, there are quite a few fees/taxes to deal with. Otherwise, we might get lucky and pay 600-700$ if a national distributor can import them directly...

It's tough to say, but odds are they'll be around 7-800$. It's not a figure we pulled out of our collective ass.

Why would we order them from the USA? My understanding is that most of the ones headding to the USA are the longer barrel with the fake suppressor. In canada we will probably be ordering the shorter barreld ones... which means not from the usa as they arent gonna have as many of those ones.

If we can import them directly from Germany, all is good and we'll benefit from better prices (500-600$): otherwise, we WILL pay import taxes and other garbage.

That's all I was saying.

Many moons ago i legally purchased and legally registered a Feather AT-22 only to have it confiscated 6 months later when some dickhead decided that it looked too evil . I sent a pm to TSE some time ago to put me on the list . Did you hear about the mixed up mountie that jumped off his whistle and blew his horse?

Hmm... seems like a lot of people arent willing to read 50 pages, meanwhile most answers are found in the last 3-5 pages.

ThanX for posting the pictures though... makes me want to actually handle on before I buy it though.. I dunno... I have this thing in the back of my head saying 'pot metal' or some other BS cheap stuff... but who knows maybe its quality built.

And yeah main reason we all want it is because we can't have it in a 9mm full auto, so its a next best thing. And if its reclassified, than we will be able to hunt with it (small game/prairie dogs etc). And with some time Im sure somebody will make a nice tighter berrel for it too :D

Cheap zinc based metal poured into moulds. It melts quickly in a pot. The worse guns ever made are made of pot metal (Jennings etc.). But for a 22. blowback it might work. It usually has a ugly pitted finish. When painted, the paint chips off easily.

Pot metal example that mostly works.

WIKI:
Pot metal refers to an alloy of inexpensive, low-melting point metals used to make fast, inexpensive castings for toys, tool parts, phonograph and Gramophone components, and automotive parts and accessories. There is no scientific metallurgical standard for pot metal (which is a slang term), but it is also known as white metal, die-cast zinc and often derisively as monkey metal.

A typical zinc diecasting alloy, Zinc#3, has the following composition (manufactured by North American Die Casting):-

Aluminum 3.5-4.3
Copper 0.25
Magnesium 0.02-0.05
Iron 0.100
Lead 0.005
Cadmium 0.004
Tin 0.003
Zinc Bal.

This alloy has an Ultimate Tensile Strength of 40ksi, a density of 0.24 lb/in3, and a melting range of 718-728 deg F. The manufacturers data sheet claims that it has relatively good "Strength, hardness and creep properties".

Pot metal is known for its instability over time, as it has a tendency to bend, distort, crack, shatter, and pit with age.

I'm not to bothered... 10/22 receiver looks like potmetal too...

That said I'd prefer a strong polymer over potmetal any day...

Well see my problem is IF (yes a big IF) its made of POT METAL, than it wont stand the repeated stress of a 22 action.

99% of airsoft (/me runs and hides... and changes address/name) that are metal are pot metal, and while they look 'ok' after repeated use they tend to fracture, and arent really that durable.

SO... from the pics it does look like pot metal, at which point I'll wait a while to read a LOT of reviews.

And im with Matt P.. I prefer a strong Polymer over pot metal as well.

Mind you this is all speculation untill we read some decent reviews by people who've abused them... err 'tested' them over some time.
