Best .22 pistol out there?

Question is too vague. Do you mean cheapest pistol out there, most accurate, light/heavy, capable of red dot, or just iron sights?

I would say Hämmerli is probably one of the best in the business. But if you're looking for cheap, Norinco M-93 is good, cheap fun.

Not the cheapest, necessarily. Looking for the whole package....reliability, durability, don't care about red dot etc. Just looking for something to take to the range and have fun.

It seems every platform has a good .22 - Glock, 1911, Sig, CZ, GSG, you probably cannot go wrong with any of them. I would go to a store or range that has some of these, get you hands on the grips, and feel how comfortable they are. Do they feel like you're grabbing the end of a 2x4? If a gun's not comfortable, you won't want to shoot it. Then, you could probably look at availability of mags and parts (stuff breaks, what happens then?), and consider if you might be interested in a red-dot optic - how much hassle would that be.

Hold a couple guns, that'll very quickly knock a couple candidates off your list (you'll be surprised), then youtube reviews, and start listing any good/bad points.

Choosing a gun is never easy, if you want a good one. But if you become a fan of a brand, things get easier, you buy whatever the company wants to sell you - comfy or not :)

But don't dismiss the idea of a revolver - $250 shipped and taxes in from some CGN vendors for a Ruger Wrangler Single-Action. Good clean fun. I have several handguns, but my 357 Magnum is one of my favs :)

Thanks for the response!

There are sooo many.
Best as in durable that you will never wear out...Ruger MK series or Browning Buckmark.
Best "looks like a real pistol" probably the M&P 22 or a CZ Cadet.
Best accuracy for the price in an all steel pistol would be a used High Standard Military.

Pretty much this. I shoot a lot of steel challenge with a lot of people that run 22 pistols. You'll see a lot of Ruger MK IVs, Browning Buckmarks, S&W Victorys. I run a Buckmark, but to be honest if I had to do it over, I'd pick up one of the Ruger MK IV 22/45 variations. They take down for cleaning better than the Buckmark. I have to remove my optic to clean the thing, not ideal. Not a big deal if you're not running an optic though I suppose.

I grabbed a Glock 44 for the kids. They love it.

I enjoy playing with it

Has been very reliable and functions well with whatever ammo I grab out of the box.
I am going to guess 7500 rounds through it. No complaints.

I never should have sold the Smith and Wesson I had many years ago.

Best .22 pistol? Volquartsen. Mamba or Scorpion - pick your poison.

I have the Mamba with a thumb rest and a Holosun red dot. It's like a cheat code. I can't even come close to the accuracy with my Shadow 2 OR.

Well yeah. They're basically Ruger MKIV 22/45s that Volquartsen did Volquartsen things to. They're (IMO) the best starting platform modified by a highly regarded company. If one of those was in the budget, that's what I'd be shooting.

As far as accuracy goes though, that's definitely you. Much easier to shoot a low recoiling rimfire pistol better than a centerfire. Or your shadow is broken.

If you want the very best accuracy, then the current model Pardini and Walther 25m pistols that we see used in the Olympics and ISSF international competition are unbeatable. They're also very expensive. Older, used Olympic level pistols like the earlier Walther GSP and (my favourite) the DES Unique 69 are almost as accurate and a lot more affordable. I've seen the DES go for under $500 in recent auctions -- an incredible bargain. People who shoot to ISSF/Olympic rules regularly generally find these are more accurate than even the best US made pistols (the High Standards and the S&W Model 41) and well ahead of the Rugers and Buck Marks (let alone the faux 1911s). And then for ultimate accuracy, there's the Free Pistols, long barrelled, single shot guns with (mostly) a martini action, for 50m competition, with the lightest possible triggers.

Tough to do better than a Ruger mk for reliability and accuracy. The Taurus tx22 competition looks interesting although I have not handled one. I recently tried out a Glock 44? It went bang every time but it sure isn’t bullseye accurate.

Currently I only own two 22 pistols. Ruger Mk II 5.5 bull barrel and a Hammerli Model 150 with LH Morini after market grip.
When I was well practiced up my best was thirty shots into four inches at 50 meters.
Then some fun experiments with the Hammerli at 100 meters. Two hundred was an impossibility with those sights. For me.
