Really? Has anyone been convicted of possessing a prohibited firearm out of the current OIC list?
I am not talking about the current banned NR while the amnesty is still in place.
I am referring to the fact that people are buying current NR, and thinking that if these NR are to be banned in the future by the government, they can 100% assume that the government will not know they have these banned guns and have the freedom to hold on to it with zero risk. In rural area, one can almost assume no risk, but the people living in major city centers like Toronto probably should not assume zero risk.
If you live in the city, you are taking a much higher risk than you are living in the rural area. If one day there is another ban and there is no amnesty, the risk that you could be caught with a banned gun in your possession is much higher in the major cities than in rural areas, simply because more people who do not like guns are watching out for guns.
If you are live in the city and follow the behaviour of people living in the rural area, you could be facing more risk than you assume.
This is not a political point, this is just a simple risk assessment point. People should make up their own minds what they want to do, but I think it is a bit of a disservice to everyone of not distinguishing the difference between "there is zero chance of repercussion" vs " the chance of repercussion ranges from 1% to 20% depending on where you are".
A guy who lives in rural alberta may have a chance of 0.00001% of problems, but a guy who lives in a condo in downtown Toronto taking his stuff up and down an elevator may have a 10% chance. The concerning matter is that the guy in Toronto think his risk is 0.000001% because this is whatever everyone said. Not knowing his risk profile he follows the behaviour pattern of the person in rural alberta, by doing so he exponentially elevated his already high risk.
I just think we all should be a bit more honest to ourselves and to others. I will not tell new guys to buy NR because "the government won't know you have the gun" ( this is what other gun owners told me) . I will say that "the government may not be able to quickly find out you have the gun and the chance is that they probably could not do so within putting in a lot of effort that they may not be able to summon".
