Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

I’m guessing Cabelas didn’t get your transfer into the system until around 28 Jun or so according to some of the stats guys are reporting. I wouldn’t be happy if it were me…

Yeah sure looks that way from the ref number. Meanwhile Marstar got their reference number to me within a day of ordering.

Just wanted to add another data point here. Today was the lucky day for me. ON->ON retail purchase.

May 31st - Purchase
June 1st - Transfer initiated (Reference number: 5888***)
July 21st - Transfer processed and received notification from CFO

Potentially noteworthy: I did not receive a reference number from the retailer I purchased from (when I asked they refused to provide). I waited until yesterday, and decided to send an email to the CFO saying something along the lines of "i have a purchase that should have been initiated on this day, i haven't heard anything, can't get a reference number, and i've heard of people who purchased after me getting approvals so I'm just checking in to see if everything is in order and if so can you please at least provide me a Reference number".

I'm NOT saying it's because I sent that email in yesterday that my transfer was processed, as according to the data posted by other gentlemen here tracking date estimates by Ref # it seems I was due this week anyway, but it IS noteworthy that I got my transfer exactly 2 minutes before they responded to my email telling me that my transfer had just been processed. It's not outside the realm of possibility that my email served as a "while I'm looking up this transfer might as well process it", but I may just be looking for a pattern where there isn't one.

Hope that helps at least provide a data point, I've been lurking here for a long time and finally had something I could contribute. Good luck to you all.

You are incorrect, dealers are still managing to get guns and selling them.
I bought two recently, separated by two days and the ref # delta is around 1700 so about 860/day are still being sold across Canada as of 19 July.

Huh, I never thought of checking the delta. I have two transfers going (one in, one out)... the delta from June 29 to July 14 is about 14,300 in my case, or ~950/day.

It is a bit of a gamble if they don’t sell all their stock because then they’re left with unsalable inventory.

Not now it isn't. No orders are coming out during the summer, not until the middle of September when Parliament re-opens and the government reconvenes, and then it'll be a month (min) for a freeze to take effect.

Stores have almost 4 solid months of risk-free sales.

Some more data points-
All Ontario Dealers to Private
- purchased May 31- transfer initiated June 2- Ref #5893***
- purchased June 9- transfer initiated June 10 or 11- Ref #5926***
-purchased July 9- transfer initiated July 10 or 11- Ref #5965***
No approvals yet, I’m expecting my June 2 transfer in the next couple of weeks.
The other two transfers, I’m not holding my breath to see either before October.

Thank you all for all new data points, I updated the sheet. Unfortunately I was making an assumption that all May 31 transfer to be completed by now, they are not. And it seems rate of processing has slowed down. So I am updating my sheet based on new data, does not look good. And as I said before, I hope I am wrong. This is all guess, and mostly for entertainment at this point.

All my transfers so far

5970### init 7/18

Still no word on any of them but that’s to be expected given most of the data in here

I'm in exactly the same boat as you - three purchases biz to private with very similar numbers..... still not a peep. I'm not expecting to see any of these until the fall.

How do you find your transfer reference number, does the dealer/seller need to get it for you or is in your government account online?

May 30 order and nothing but crickets. First handgun, so I am painfully refraining from buying more until I see if the first one gets through.

Since that time I have joined the club, got my club card and key, got my CSSA member card, got a nice lockable hard case. Too much to ask these government guys to work a Saturday or two in order to catch up I suppose.

Yes, if a dealer, you can request the ref # with a note on the purchase order. They may or may not comply -- depends on the dealer.
A seller needs to give you the ref # so the transaction can be completed with you phoning the CFO.

BTW, also waiting on a few purchases around 31 May. Nothing so far.
