Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

Early on we were hearing about transfers for some folks being entered days after purchase due to the sudden congestion in the system. Then with my last purchase I got email from the store with the transfer request number at 4 in the morning. Hopefully that means the store automated their transfers and didn't have to put someone on graveyard shift initiating transfers when the CFO site is less swamped!

In this rush of buying I've ordered handguns from 6 different vendors and have yet to receive any of my transfer request numbers.

Calling the CFO in an attempt to hurry your transfer will do nothing but slow the process down as it takes them away from the job at hand. I know someone who is leo who had a cannection in the cfo office and knew the person/extension to call.

They were buying in April, before the mad rush, but that call made no difference at all. In fact it took longer for their transfer to go through than mine did.

Unless you have an actual problem with your transfer due to missed info, address change etc, leave the phone lines alone so people who need to do private transfers etc can get through.

When people phone in to complete private transfers…..it’s to the CFC, not the CFO’s office.

Something weird going on.

Me: Transfer initiated June 21st, ref# 5898### - not completed yet.

Friend: Transfer initiated June 6th, ref 5914### - transfer completed July 15th.

Both in Ontario, both bought from retailers.

My transfer initiation was done 15 days after, but has a lower Ref#?

I ordered 2 restricted on June 1, 2022 from retailers.
I received 1 transfer notice July 22, 2022.
I'm in Ontario.

Def something weird as I have 3 transfers (all with lower Ref # then both of yours) and still not complete

Might be time to up the anti a bit....How about we all start phoning Doug Ford's office Monday morning? Contact the Premier by Phone at 416-325-1941. Respectful but firm message, perhaps like this one:

"I have purchased some restricted firearms recently and have been told by the Chief Firearms Office in Ontario that it will take over 3 months for my transfers to be reviewed. I have been waiting for over XX weeks now. This is absolutely unacceptable. I undergo a CPIC check every single day in order to maintain my license. It should be a rather quick review. I am respectfully asking that the Premier provide additional resources and improve processes to speed the transfer system up, such as conducting a one time review per buyer, with multiple transfers, instead of processing each and every transfer individually. Thank you."

Yes! Here is the email page to send your questions or comments to Premier Ford: https://correspondence.premier.gov.on.ca/en/feedback/default.aspx

Done! Thanks for that link FarewellToArms!

Hello Premier Ford; I'm a life long hunter & target shooter. With Trudeau's announcement of a handgun freeze, I recently purchased several handguns. I realized that I would never be able to participate in Cowboy Action Shooting if I didn't purchase some period correct revolvers... So... I did, and now I've been waiting OVER 6 weeks with no word when these transfers might be completed.

What is obvious is the CFO in Ontario is understaffed & unable to provide comparable service received by Canadians living in other provinces. The wait for a transfer to be completed by the ON CFO is over 3 months now & unreasonable when other provinces are completing them in a couple days or a few weeks. You need to bring in additional resources so that folks living in Ontario receive equivalent service standards as other provinces.

From my understanding, transfers are completed in the order they are received. One way to speed up and streamline the system would be for the CFO to complete these transfers in batches. ALL pending transfers for a licensed owner should be done at the same time, not in the order they are received as that represents duplication of effort over and over. That's inefficient & something you can fix immediately...

Please do something about the CFO's Office and these unreasonable delays.

Sincerely
Jay
