Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

I am surprised that the businesses and sellers are not pressuring the government to get this moving (maybe they are?). They are the ones with the most to lose monetarily if there is an OIC that halts everything. There were over 20,000 guns sold with perhaps an average price of $750 per unit. That is $15 million dollars changed hands (sort of) that could just be stopped and a potential of close to 2 million in tax revenue to the government. It would seem that people in the gun business would or should be the ones on the blower to their rep politician to see if they can get this transfer process sped up particularly in Ontario.

I get that they want the process to remain safe (I am all for that) and all the bases covered to make sure it is done right, but maybe adding a few more hands to the oars for a couple weeks might be a smart move to get this backlog dealt with. The ta potential tax revenue alone from the process would pay extras salaries needed.

The government is spending hundreds of millions on a gun buyback, they couldn't give two ####s about 2 million in potential tax revenue, the only thing that can stop them is a conservative majority.

Yes but I would think Doug fords “open for business” government might. It is his police force that is running the office and I would think he may be motivated to respond to business complaints rather than a bunch of emails from impatient consumers

Retailers have done nothing for customers since the announcement. Not a thing.

Prices have risen, customers need to follow up regarding purchases. Orders getting cancelled due to over selling.

Retailers telling customers to follow up with the CFO, the CFO asking retailers to not have customers contact them.

Retailers can't keep stock, keep saying that this is the last shipment of this and that.

If they really cared about customers they would be pressuring the government to speed things up. From what I am seeing they are doing nothing except having record sales numbers, and blaming the government for delays.

If this affected them in a negative way you can be sure they would be doing everything in their power to fix it.

Am I missing the sarcasm or WTF?

Most sponsors on this site are small businesses. That means owner operator. Not a big corporation with a PR department. Most of these businesses barely marketing themselves let alone have resources to lobby the government. They are too busy taking orders and sending out reference number to fight JUSTIN. Also they are working overtime because they know there are no more handgun sales soon.

A retailer is not a manufacturer or a distributer. They can only sell what they can get. The national distributers are all announcing no more Canadian shipments till the law is passed or not. Retailers can't order more and whatever they can get is a free for all to buy online.

Blame your local MP. Blame the Liberal/NDP lovers. Blaming the only people willing to sell us guns is BS.

Doug Ford abandoned the conservative base, and their wants and needs quite some time ago, if he ever really held them true. His new slogan, even if it is not a public slogan, is "Ontario, keep me in power". He like pretty much every politician once they get elected try to fulfill their election promises, but by year three move on to how to keep their job, not how to do their job, which only gets worse with each election the win. So he will for the rest of his time in power pander to whoever will give him votes, and since most of Ontario (Toronto) buys into the Liberal message Guns = Bad/Scary, will not put his neck on the line to help us get our bought and paid for handguns any quicker.

Side note, he would not be able to contact them to do anything anyway, given his IQ level, he probably can't spell CFO. (And if he can, more then likely he thinks it stands for Chicken Fingers, Fries, Onion rings)

Any chance the reference numbers hit 6000000 before the party's over? Or are there not enough pistols on offer?

lots to unpack there....

as i am sure you know, most retailers dont order directly from manufacturers, rather they go through distributors. Orders are usually placed MONTHS in advance so neither they nor distributors can snap their fingers and replace literally a year's worth of guns sold in a couple of weeks.

individual stores dont lobby the govt but their collective representative, the CSAAA does. While us consumers have the CCFR, CSSA, and NFA, the CSAAA is the voice of retailers....and the CSAAA has been very active

As for record sales numbers....that is a result of the rush demand and the revenue will have to keep many afloat because if the new regulations come into place, many stores will lose HUGE parts of their revenue (think of all those that invested in building ranges attached to their stores)

not sure how you can believe this is not affecting them in a negative way.

stores are blaming the govt because the govt is to blame. again, they normally sell 80,000 handguns per year but sold 60,000 in the first 10 days since the announcement...the govt did not increase the capacity of CFOs or modify their system to accomodate this 10 fold increase in sales.

No,you said a lot more than that and MethodTAG’s response to your post was on the mark…

The rest of what I said are facts. My opinion is that retailers need to do more but don’t because it does not affect them.

Do you need more clarification?

Nothing is final yet. There was an announcement. It has been a boon for retailers. When it becomes law I will cry for the retailers.

Burlew mentioned that there is law from the 70's or 80's where a judge ordered all in-progress transfers to be completed. If true then retailers carry no risk once a reference number has been assigned.

Certainly don’t need more clarification, lol

You’ve had 3 different posters picking your post apart because you’re opinion is out of touch… You should be a better listener…

I stated facts and my opinion. How is that out of touch?

See you did need clarification.

Burlew is usually on the mark but lawyers make statements all the time presuming the’re right and sometimes don’t. I certainly hope he is and so far transfers are proceeding at a snail’s pace. What happens when this legislation finally gets pushed through? Are the dealers going to be able to return unsold handguns to the distributors? Are the distributors going to be able to return them to the US sources? Lots of questions and not many answers for the dealers that have been our source for years, some for decades.

We all have a stake in this, the dealers, the distributors and us firearms owners and the Liberals don’t give a rats azz how it affects any of us. My local dealer is great and I wish him and his business continued success.
