Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

they normally sell 80,000 handguns per year but sold 60,000 in the first 10 days since the announcement...the govt did not increase the capacity of CFOs or modify their system to accomodate this 10 fold increase in sales.

And if the public safety minister had even one iota of competence, they would have consulted the provinces before issuing back of napkin policy, so the other levels of government would not get shafted trying to deliver on a federal policy that costs the feds nothing in manpower.

Burlew mentioned that there is law from the 70's or 80's where a judge ordered all in-progress transfers to be completed. If true then retailers carry no risk once a reference number has been assigned.
if that’s a fact (and I hope it is) then you are prob right. I have seen similar posts elsewhere but no one actually can pinpoint the reason, context or dates of that judges order.

I haven't seen a new successful transfer posted since early in the 3rd for Onterrible. Not a good sign.

Seriously, this is very concerning. I'd sound the alarm bells if this keeps up. Right now, I'm hoping it's just that the majority of people aren't posting their transfer approvals.

Sigh. Just heard about the ban on the import of firearms that will be active on Aug 19.

When the freeze goes through in the fall will all the pending transfers will go through during after the freeze or they will be canceled too?

If they go through, can I buy another gun now knowing that I probably will get it in 2023, or they might cancel the transfers…

On the positive side, it might mean that the existing transfers will move more quickly. ;)

No it won't... it might even slow down since there won't be an increasing pile, maybe the guys doing the transfers will take their sweet time to make it last.

Everything that helps us is mired in bureaucracy and things that are against us... no bureaucracy at all, just happens.

Can you post an updated chart please?

sure, i changed the estimate based on 50 , 75 & 100 processed per day (deleted the 200 per day dream). I need more data for approved transfers beyond Aug 3 to estimate better.

I don't think i would worry too much about that. Most people i know would never post to an online forum let alone post the results of their handgun purchases, and even less of them know or think about things like transfer reference numbers etc.

Those who do post transfer results to this thread on this forum, I am sure, are a minority of those who purchased

I'd be happier if we were still seeing people checking in to say they'd just received a transfer approval and those were flowing.

If it helps here is some info.

I had a transfer from May 25 # 58787XX . My transfer # from a May 30 sale that was finally submitted June 2 was 5896###. So there were 17,7XX transfers submitted between those 2 dates. Your chart has 9000 for May 31 - June 2.

I am thinking that since my May 25 purchase was transferred in the typical 3 weeks time, and that there was a weekend between May 25 and the May 30 announcement, the majority of those 17,000+ transfers were done after the announcement so you may want to adjust the first 2 days. Hope that helps.

I agree with you that the buying sprees are not linear.
The chart he put there was assuming linear extrapolation which was the best he could do but probably is not close to the reality
