Transfer times in BC

Has anyone here tried showing up in person to the CFO?

I'm going to be in the area tomorrow and was wondering if people think this is a bad or good idea!

It's tempting to call the number for reporting a safety concern just to see how long that takes..... :)

I have come to learn that many of the call takers for the BC CFO office are working from home. While I was on a call with one I could hear a dog barking very close by. I asked her if they allowed dogs in the office and shes stated that she was working from home and that many of the call takers were doing so.

Called in today at 945am, 2 tries, on hold for about 30 min. I asked about a reference # and while she went to check on it she cleared one of my 4 orders. The lowest reference number. 5983XX bought on aug 4th from gun shop. Then said feel free to call in in another week or so, or to just wait. But she was clear that they welcome people calling in. And want to give everyone a chance to get some transfers approved.

thank you I got through in like 30 minutes she did 3 for me on the spot she was super nice Im freaking ecstatic my first restricted and I got 3 coming all at once :) to be fair one was from June 24th (the one I was calling about) so I really did not cheat too much it was due this week anyway lol the other two were just gravy :)

I called in today for another ATT and again I asked about some of my pending transfers. The lady on the phone dissapeared for about 10 minutes and was able to get them approved. One of them was even an out going to Ontario, yes an Ontario transfer submitted on 20 Aug 2022 was cleared today. The buyer was very please to say the least.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get the new registration papers in the mail? Got my transfer approved on August 25. Nothing yet… I did get my new licence with “transportation conditions” 2 days ago.
Do I need that registration in hand before I go to the range?
Thanks.

Yes you need the Registration in hand to take it to the range.

I got my registration on August 31 for a transfer that was approved on August 15; so just over 2 weeks, which is right in line with my past experience with getting Reg Certs pre-freeze announcement.

This surprises me. I was under the impression on the ONT CFO would be able to approve that. I guess not.

I'm fine with waiting, it's all the " I called in and they did all mine on the phone while I waited" claims that sort of lead me to believe that after over 2 months of waiting some people might be cutting the line with the help of the BCCFO.

More annoying then waiting for them to rubber stamp paperwork is not being able to call in and complete a transfer so it can be forwarded to the rubber stampers.

The nonsensical new non restricted rules are probably not helping with the work load.

This has been my argument, why do I need someone to rubber stamp every restricted purchase I make? I'm already licensed to own that particular class of firearm, why do I need to be manually approved each time I make a purchase?

It just seems like a giant waste of my tax dollars for them to be doing all these rubber stamps.

Also yes, I agree I'm getting annoyed with these people that are cutting the line, while those of us are waiting patiently for our approvals.

From what I can gather, they're not really cutting the line because the people who work the phones only work the phones (at least according to others on this thread who have asked the people on the phone). They are not tasked with approving transfers if they aren't on the phone... And if that is the case then an argument can be made that they are actually speeding up the rest of the transfers, because if the phone people ONLY approve transfers if people call in about them, then all those transfers being approved by calling in are getting removed from the pile that would have to be approved by the people who do approve them, thus increasing the number of overall transfers done in a given day.

And because its the BC CFO office, not the CFP office that is approving transfers, you can't even blame these people for tying up the phone lines that you need to get through to start/continue a transfer.

usually inside a week from when they send them out but its how long they take to send them out that's the wild card from my experience nothing from the canadian government rcmp etc is ever fast takes the CRA 2 weeks to mail you out a new code for your online services etc. And yes the lady told me today you need the paperwork before going to the range you get the temp pass to go from the post office to home if your not home when its delivered and you need to go pick it up. after that if you need to go to a new home or to the gunsmith gun show etc you need a temp pass for that too

that's exactly what the lady today told me she did 3 for me without asking I still have two more but did not bother asking for those I was just thrilled to get the 3 the others will probably come in next year. and ultimately anyone who gets through and gets a phone transfer just makes it faster for everyone else, they have the time to be on hold talk to an agent working from home on the phones only so now the office can do someone else's 3 transfers instead of mine. In fact the woman told me they were assigned to someone else but she stole them lol because I was on the phone. so every call makes it faster for everyone else it took her 10 minutes to do 3 the office does 100 a day and if you work in an office you know the pace you go at if its a repetitive task talking at the water cooler taking breaks lunch reading emails messing up wikipedia pages lol you get what Im saying

That's a good point, but I've also heard on this thread that the reason that the BC CFO shuts their phone off in the afternoon is so they can approve transfers. Although it does make sense that the people on the phone and people approving transfers are different people.

Honestly, I just think the fact that every transfer has to be rubber-stamped by RCMP is ridiculous when I hold a valid license to own restricted firearms.
