Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

I suspect that opportunity was missed. Too bad.

The opportunity definitely was not missed
I asked that question and mentioned that other provinces were doing it. The guy at the CFO stand said they were not going to do it!!! I even explained that if one pistol was approved under my name, then all of my pistols should be approved. I got a blank stare back

I asked the CFO booth at TACCOM if private transfers were on a different stream than business transfers.

She said the answer is no. One employee does private transfers and the other two do business transfers. Say they are on June 4th transfers. If the private sales employee finishes the transfers for that day, they move to business transfers until all transfers for that day are complete.

Thank you for asking this question! I have heard a lot of speculation of different queues, but no data that supports it. This approach makes sense.

They told me they were hiring a bunch of staff to help clear the backlog.

I spoke with them as well. They have 30,000 transfers to do
They have assigned a couple people who normally do not do transfers to help out
They are being allowed some OT as well.

Yes they are hiring staff. But it's OPP. So not like the hiring process at Walmart.
People have to pass clearance checks, and it is going to take some time

My impression from them was that they are just as upset with this mess as we are.
They are doing their best in a bad situation.
I would encourage people not to call because that takes them away from transfers.

The one guy suggested what I suggested - call your MPP (not your MP)
Like I stated in my other post, they are OPP and they report to the Solicitor General
Look up who has that portfolio, that is who needs to get the ball rolling - and get your MPP on it....

I have two from June 1 and June 2.. One is a 5906### and other is 5907###... both from retailers in Ontario.. nothing on them yet!

any estimate anyone here that knows more than me...?

Please go to page 335 to see a rough estimate for those reference numbers in a chart created by Wolf. Those reference number line up with June 3-4. The retailer may have submitted your transfer in the days after the purchase.
I would also check back in a couple of days for an updated timeline if and when Wolf feels he has data to do so. There has been a slight improvement in pace lately, or so it seems.
Hope this helps.

And here is update for today:

BUMP ....

The ontario CFO is not the problem here. They are severely under-staffed.
Calling in is just wasting their time and slowing them down.

We have the turd to blame for this fiasco......

Yes if you live in Ontario this is your Thread.

Thanks Wolf for making and upkeeping your Chart!
Should have been a posted all over the Taccom show!

We had a huge bump in approved numbers this weekend, I wait for today approvals and will publish an updated chart by EOD. If this trend continues we should see June 2 completed this week. I am eagerly waiting for my first post apocalypse 59023XX that was submitted on June 2.

I just wrote my MPP back & sent them Wolf's chart...

Hello Celeste;

As follow up, please find attached a chart for my MPP Mr. Fraser, that forecasts when these transfers will be approved.

I made purchases from June 5th through to July 13th. If you look at this chart, it is forecast that my transfer for the June 5th purchase will be approved sometime between October 24th and the 3rd of Nov, a delay of almost 5 months. If you look at my purchase on July 13th, it will be approved sometime between June 26th to June 30th 2023, a delay of almost an entire year!

Personally, as a licensed firearms owner, I find this delay in approving a transfer by the CFO completely unacceptable. If this were to be the registration of a vehicle, boat etc., I believe there would be more of an uproar, but because it's firearms nothing much is being done to expedite these approvals. The ON CFO isn't even willing to do 'batch transfers' like other CFO offices are, and the other CFO's are completing approvals in days or weeks...

As my MPP, I appreciate your time & I hope there is something you can do on my behalf to ensure the ON CFO completes these approvals in a timely manner. The current delays for folks living in ON are unacceptable.

Kind Regards
Jay
