Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

Hello,

Just came across this thread.

Not sure what happened, but my transfer 5915***, started on June 6th was approved and I took possession of a firearm (ON private to private) on July 19th.

Another one from August 28 (6016***) is still pending - will update on the status once approval is granted,

Thank you

Did you called CFO of Ontario for your 5915### number?

No, I didn't call CFO for any out of ordinary processing.
Just a typical purchase - met with seller, inspected the item, money transfer.
Next day he called CFO, passed the reference number to me.
Then me calling the CFO to complete the transfer, then wait and, month a half later - approval notification in a form of an email.

Hope this helps,

Best of luck!

You’re post requires a bit of clarification. He didn’t call the CFO to initiate the transfer, he called the CFC. You as well called the CFC and not the CFO. He could have had the transfer expedited for some reason or another but it shouldn’t have been “just a typical purchase “.

Maybe the CFO made a mistake or just liked you but something out of the ordinary happened for sure.

Believe you are right.
He did call CFP (1-800-731-4000) and initiated transfer and then me doing the same to complete it.

Doubt there's much in me to like, but oh, well, can't really complain. :)

Again, hoping things will speed up and wishing everyone all the best.

I personally believe that all firearms businesses should have power of transferring the restricted firearms to the individuals.Anyway, RCMP runs background checks every day on people who carry a restricted firearms license. Then why it is again required to go through provincial CFO for review, when transferring.

What you folks think?
Seems simple on the surface but that would leave business owners with access to all sorts of personal info such as who has peacebonds etc etc against them. These are not necessarily criminal charges or anything that would show up without having access to a lot of other personal information. I am sure there are processes that could be developed to make something like that possible but would take longer to develop and put into action than the current process. What would speed things up are things like batch transfer. That is where our suggestions should maybe be focused to get the current blip in transfers moving and completed.

It could be quite simple to set up, given we all have PAL Cards. Similar to when you cross the border with a Nexus card, they scan the card, all is good you cross. It could be as simple as the business gets a card scanner given to them, get it activated, you go to buy your gun, it pops up approved, rejected or hold. If its approved, they get a page to enter the had gun details, and give you the gun, rejected or hold, a phone number pops up that they give to the customer to call and find out what the issue is. Its 2022, we have lots of technology to make things simpler and easier. And if the Government wasn't in full control, a better system would have been created years ago.

I can finally contribute to this thread with my first post!
