IN-STOCK: All-New TYPE 81 SR

Just got back from the range.
This is easily the best/smoothest/most ergonomic rifle in the T81 line up.

Only fired 80 rounds, as I didn't want to push it too much before implementing the stock fix.

Was unable to get into the 100 yard range today, but after the intial sighting in, was getting about 0.75in groups with mix of Barnaul and Norinco FMJ at 25 yards.

In theory, this shoud translate to about 3 MOE at 100 yards and that is about what I was expecting.
Overall super impressed with everything (except for the stock design flaw of course).

IMO this version is the best Type 81sa yet.

Poor out box buttstock attachment and the fact they didnt use laminate are my only 2 complaints about it.
Otherwise its a Type 81sa setup almost exactly how I like my 7.62x39 guns setup and for the same price as the LMG.

Totally agree. Don't heed the naysayers, they are just looking for something to complain about to justify not being able to have one or buyers remorse.

The stock issue is pretty trivial in the end, the action of the gun and core parts of the gun are solid. I'll also add to the list
- short trigger reset, very easy to shoot rapidly
- LMG barrel for durability and heat dissipation
- 3 moa is more than enough for this calibre for practical accuracy, enough to hit a 16-20" target out to 500m (how many people with appropriate calibres even shoot past 300m or are competent enough to do so) from the people i meet at the range its not many
- length is literally the same as an sks (short enough and handy) its not like its long like a real PSL or something, that would be silly for 7.62 x 39

But according to some of the people in this thread apparently they can shoot an sks and "group" at 400m better with (I assume) iron sights...

After 100+ rounds trough it, it's difficult to sight properly and adjusments, at 10-0 yards with norinco corrosive chinese surplus is 4 MOA, with the scope. We'll try it more.

We cant figure out to center it properly, without wind. The scope mount gets loose easily too, and needs locktite.

tight it a little more.never had one moving that bad unless the mount is not tight enough.

Take a video and post it on youtube.

There are plenty of videos from people who cannot mount a scope.

Half an SR is still way cooler then yet another numbers matching Tula haha

By February ill have mine decked out to better resemble a PSL. Clapping the torso plate @400m while larping in the coulees. Good times. And when i sit to catch a breath, you can be assured I WONT be sitting there "baffled" as to why i didnt buy a mayo grade 400 dollar SKS instead lol

Original retort by bigmouth: "Show me an SR resembling a PSL for 2k."

To each their own but I for one look forward to seeing the PSL - esque mods proposed by Murray; his "street cred" is already well established, period.

That my opinion as well… I like it. The extra long receiver fits this arrangement much better cosmetically and functionally. Perhaps I was spoiled with the Vz58 with its tight dimensions because the carbine T81 don’t feel “tight” if you know what I mean.

As for the SKS… it’s a great gun. Will the SR be better? I can say I like my SKS over the T81SE.

Has anyone tried the iron sights? when I tried to get a sight picture with the iron sights, I found that it's basically impossible to do so on the lower rear sight notch, I had to use the upper notch that is normally meant for 600-700 meters. When I bore sight it though it seems like they used the upper rear sight notch for the 100-500m settings instead of the lower one, which seems unusable even without the cheek rest.

If the upper notch can be used then its possible to use the iron sights even with the scope mounted! unfortunately I can't take mine out for awhile so if someone can let me know I would be really thankful.

There are pressure cracks from the holes not having much material around them but will the cracks grow with time and is the cracked stock loose?

Had 2 boxes of Barnauls through it. I think it's a very comfortable shooter despite worrying the stock will come off, no crack to plays for now. The scope cover is a bit noisy that it is bouncing around with recoil. IMO it's a very nice plinking gun for gongs

I brought mine to the range today conditions were excellent for shooting. I did not purchase the scope so I was using the iron sights only. Shooting norinco white box was disappointing it shot 6 MOA. However shooting hornady black was more encouraging at 3 moa. Now what is disappointing is that I may not be able to sight in the rifle. The front sight is all the way to the left and my grouping is still left of point of Aim by about 12 inches. sight.jpg
