7.62x39 hunting ammo

123gr Speer Hotcores over $7/lb WC735 surplus powder, probably the cheapest rounds I load, and the combo works pretty good out of a CZ 527 carbine.

Woodliegh 130 gr. Soft point, Imr 4198. Haven't concluded testing. Will try hunting with it next hunting season.

ooh , thats awesome.
i see those projectiles in the woodleigh manual... i ave some 130s in .308 in good quantity but i dont think its going to play dice, so awaiting reproduction for sure on those!

they'l open up, dont worry.. they should penetrate well, because they should not open up as much under x39 velocitys.... example. pushin the 130 .308 at 2900 really opens it wide, an slows penetration on bigg animals. all g on lil ones.

i only shot one critter, sellier bellot 124g jsp.. perfect

My daughter will be using 123gr TSX and the boy will be using 123gr Hornady Interlocks this fall. Both have performed well on deer but the TSX is by far the best option if you have them or can find them.

I don't expect that much out of the round... kinda like a thurty thurty. Hence I just went with a good red dot... let's face it...it's shot it's wad at 200 paces...red dot is a good fit for a 200 yd gun.
I have acquired a good variety of fodder for it though...Igman sealed packs of 100 rds...a boat load of Wolf, some of it is pretty heavy, maybe 200 grains.
Mine is an 1891 with rechambered Lee Enfield bbl...can't really mount decent glass because of the split bridge though.

Sounds like a cool rifle!

My idea is to mount a peep sight and use it a a bush gun. It's nice and light so easy to carry.

It is...but needs a touch of work in the form of a better block in front of the En bloc... it can and will lose the grip on the base and pile it up...when least desired I am sure.
Double set triggers are neat though.

PRVI 123 grain soft points seem to still be somewhat affordable in factory loaded ammo. I have also been very impressed with the Hornady SST's in this caliber.

I'd really like to see what they can do with a 110 or 120 grain Barnes TTSX like for the 300 Blackout. Might have to single load but still.

Or a 110gr GMX.

Working up with regular 308 cal 110gr data should be straightforward enough eh? Doesn't have to be a maxed out rocket.

How's the accuracy with the handloads from the SKS?
this was when i tested them @50
always seems to be one that run off in a 5 shot string.

Dang that is so promising otherwise! I wonder if it is always the same one in the group? I mean, it sucks but...if its #4 or #5 then the 3 shot groups would be sweet :p

Wonder if thats a bedding/stock fit issue or what.

My Garand will do that as well. Always one way outside the group. Apparently pretty well known as a thing. First round, I believe.

I have both the Prvi Partizan 123gr pointed soft points with excellent reloadable brass and the Hornady 123gr SST with the lacquer cases. Both shoot well out of both my 1954 Tula and my CZ527. The CZ527 in particular has been been particularly accurate.
