Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

What is IWS?

I'm waiting for 59745xx B to P, so I'm beginning to wonder where mine is.

Highest approval for yesterday was 59743**. I wouldn’t stress that yours hasn’t shown up yet. Should be any day. Maybe if you haven’t received by the end of next week I’d start getting concerned.

Depends who you ask lol. Do a search, there have been lots of debates about it. I would say no, but I'm neither a lawyer nor a CFO, so do whatever you feel comfortable doing. My opinion is that your transfer notice is a defacto registration certificate, on the grounds that the registration certificate is a possession document, not a transport document. If it's not ok for you to take it to the range, then it's not ok for you to have it in the first place. Simple logic. :)

I received a transfer approval today and in the email it had the following statement:

"**CFO Ontario is aligning with the practice of other CFOs regarding Transfer Notices. Effective Immediately Transfer Notifications’ purpose is to take possession of a newly acquired firearm after the transfer is completed, and does not serve as a temporary registration certificate. Subsequent movement of the firearm can only occur after receipt of the registration certificate.***

So you can pickup your firearm but can't take it to the range until you receive the reg certificate. Would it not be simpler to say "This Transfer Notification serves as an ATT to pickup your firearm(s) but you will have to wait for the registration certificate(s) before you can take your firearm(s) to the range."?

Our government always uses confusing words for everything so it can be interpreted many ways ,jus the way they think is correct will be the right one..you can see these things in any law and your interpretation is almost always wrong..DON'T USE COMMON SENSE THOUGH and presume is right , it doesn't apply to what the government do..and a good example would be batch transfers

Talking about the certificate, after getting the transfer notice, usually how long do I need to wait for the registration certificate?

My last transfer notice was received on Dec 2, however I have yet to have the registration certificate to arrive in my mail box. Can't wait to take my baby to the range.

Usually 2-3 weeks but may be a little longer with the holidays coming up. If you got your transfer on Dec. 2, you should have that registration before the end of next week. I am currently waiting on one too:cool:

I mean it’s kinda covered in the RPAL course plus at the bottom of the ATT it specified clearly it’s a one time transport only?

5956### p2p, QC to ON. Waited since June 27th. Almost 6 months. Had it approved yesterday. Email arrived after 5pm, that's kind of weird considering its next to impossible to get a hold of anyone over there after 4pm.
