Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

5956### p2p, QC to ON. Waited since June 27th. Almost 6 months. Had it approved yesterday. Email arrived after 5pm, that's kind of weird considering its next to impossible to get a hold of anyone over there after 4pm.

Maybe someone was working OT last night to catch up to the B2P transfers. That was the fourth P2P approved for yesterday. 3 of the 4 were approved 21 days later than a B2P in the same reference number range. Getting more consistent.

I received a transfer approval today and in the email it had the following statement:

"**CFO Ontario is aligning with the practice of other CFOs regarding Transfer Notices. Effective Immediately Transfer Notifications’ purpose is to take possession of a newly acquired firearm after the transfer is completed, and does not serve as a temporary registration certificate. Subsequent movement of the firearm can only occur after receipt of the registration certificate.***

Yeah, mine was similar, it said

"Transfer Notifications' purpose is to take possession of a newly acquired firearm after the transfer is completed, and does not serve as a temporary registration certificate. Subsequent movement of the firearm can only occur after receipt of the registration certificate."

It's complete BS. The CFO has a lot of authority and discretion, but they don't get to make up laws. I follow laws, not alignments of practices. If it's illegal to take your gun to the range with a transfer notice, then it's illegal for you to pick up your gun with a transfer notice, which would mean the CFP is counseling you to break the law by telling you that you can take possession of the gun.

Would be nice if they can approve mine before they leave for holiday. 59646XX, Dec 5+ 21 days.

Wrong…

I purchased a hand gun June 20 P2P consignment through a business and I have not received approval yet. I emailed the Ontario CFO and this morning I received a reply stating that the reference number the dealer gave me is not associated with my licence?? I emailed the business to get the correct reference number but I have not received a reply.

In the mean time I contacted the CFP in New Brunswick. They agreed that that reference number was not mine. I gave them the serial number and they said there was no pending transfers for that firearm and the last transfer was in 2019.

I have waited 179 days only to find out the dealer never initiated the transfer and gave us someone else's transfer number. A transfer can no longer be initiated so I am SOL. Let us hope I can get my money back and the dealer has the gonads to buy the firearm from the seller.

Actually, right. Consider this, you bring your new gun home, then for whatever reason, the police end up at your house, maybe too loud a party, whatever, then catch wind of the restricted firearm in your house and ask to see your reg cert, Your reg cert hasn't arrived in the mail yet. What are you going to do?

You are not transporting it. You don’t need the registration certificate until you take it to the range.
