About Colt Single Action Grips

As to that: I think if you, Moe, write Colt and pay a fee they'll be able to tell you what caliber your particular frame originally came it. I highly doubt it was .38 Special because of the year it was made but it might have been .38 Long Colt. Either way, you could fully restore it to original shape over time if you felt like you wanted to. But obviously, .38 Special is much more available than a lot of other calibers it might have been chambered in.

It definitely was not originally in 38 Special. That cartridge didn't come about until 1899 and this Colt was born in 1893.

I have thought of getting that done by Colt. I realize it is a small fee and takes some time to be carried out but the real reason I have not done it yet is my fear of what comes back.

See here in Canada an antique cannot be or originally of a list of disqualifying calibers. Including many of the popular ones that the Colt SAA were produced in. Including 45 Colt, 44-40, 38-40, 38 Long Colt.

If I solicit Colt to do this research I would likely be handing over this gun one day for destruction. Laws were recently DICTATED by our current government that stops all transfers of restricted and prohibited class handguns. This means such guns cannot be sold, purchased, traded or handed to family even after ones death. Simply when your gone they are destroyed.

So if the Colt was originally of one of those calibers it would be deemed restricted class and have to be immediately destroyed by law as it is not permitted to be newly registered. It is now an antique classed firearm (and antiques are not registered) and I don't want to risk having that changed. I don't know if Colt sending the scroll with the info could be obtained by our authorities but I am not about to spend my money and go out of my way to simply screw myself.

Cheers

calmex You mention acquiring items for the case hardening and hammer parts but I would not chase down these items until I had the gun in hand. As for the brick furnace I believe that could work if the furnace can handle the heat for an hour. You might consider renting it if possible unless you can think of other uses for it after in your life. As for the hammer. I had a Pietta SAA clone in 45 Colt a few years ago. It had a hammer that looked identical to the Colt. Therefore there might be modern made parts from Italy that might fit.

Sorry to hear of Jayne's fate. It seems too often good people are dealt a poor hand.

Do you know the title of the movie I definitely need to see?

I don't know that you "need" to see it, the IMDB rating is only 5.4. The lead actress sorta looks like Jayne. Maybe.
It's called "We have your husband."

Dateline NBC also did a one hour episode (Season 18/Episode 28) called "The Desperate Hours".

Both were produced 6 years or more before the actual kidnappers were caught. That happened in 2017, while I was already living in
and slowly coming to the realization that Canada would never be San Miguel, not even knocking on the dirty outside wall of the gymnasium.

It was the Mexico City News that gets sent to my email Inbox everyday whether I read it or not that broke that headline, subsequently confirmed
by friends of mine living there. It was later on, after this initial article that this group got linked to Eduardo's kidnapping. Or so I'm told.
https: //mexiconewsdaily.com/news/kidnapping-suspect-lived-in-san-miguel/

Don't worry, I won't buy the stuff to do a color case job until I've got a duck in the hand. AND, I'll try to mooch equipment first. The Queretero
Custom Shop guys would probably be all over any such project and would "make it happen", but I worry that my constantly involving them in
my nefarious schemes will sooner or later make them lock me from the shop. As so many of my friend's wives have done from their homes
over the years under the ridiculous assumption that I somehow represent some sort of risk if they associate with me. It's Allen who's the fricken'
risk. I say.

TPB has the film with only 1 seeder. I did not find the Dateline NBC episode, that one might be a bit tougher. Either way, I did not watch either production. I already know what happened and I know how it came out.

No, that's probably a good policy. Notice that I am not planning on acquiring an original old Peacemaker here in Canada either. No little Floricita and his band of Merry Idiots are going to come between me and my original old Peacemaker either.

Thanks for the title to the movie. Yes I agree the actress looks like Jayne. I dove into the incident and my God what an ordeal that family went through.

Thanks folks. I spent some time fitting the grips I picked up. Sadly I don't have the skills to do a good job of it. Does anyone know of someone that would offer such a service? Is there a SAA guy out there?

I have used ,,,, Rusty Woods Trading Co. in BC for work on my Colt SAA & was very pleased.
I am sure he is on this site.

A lot of people -- business people usually -- were being kidnapped at that time. By the Chilean gang, and copy cats. I carried my 5-shot snubby daily and often upped it with a Glock 19/25 or a S&W Model 3904 when lots of stuff was happening. My best friend's wife, her cousin was kidnapped while walking her dog and she was raped and murdered and dumped on the street. Jayne and Eduardo had the movie to show what happened to them but there were dozens of others.

Another good friend, a restaurateur, his wife was "taken" -- again while driving the kids to school -- and she was immediately injected with heroin and kept for a year and turned into a drug whore for the gang that took her until enough money was raised to buy her back. I guess that now, 17 years later, she's still not "back completely".

To say I'd have shot you at that time for looking at me wrong would be an overstatement but I'd probably have thought about it. You had to be there, I guess. I know of one guy who saved himself a close-range shot in the chest by immediately changing his attitude and direction. Unlike in IPSC/Manitoba, when I was looking for instructors out on the range in the Mexican Combat Shooting Clubs amongst the interested shooters, I'd often privately ask "Have you yet had to draw a gun and shoot or threaten someone?" I thought, in the circumstances, it was probably good to ask. A rather surprising number had already had their own "incidents". It was an interesting time to be a Mexican businessman in State of Guanajuato. Apparently, these days, if one pays the "protection" they have no incidents. I left before that became a requirement, back when just being armed and ready to play was enough. Thankfully. But it was different than Marquess of Queensberry rules for sure at that time and place.

I watched the movie today. Found it on free on youtube believe it or not. It wasn't that badly done but was much like you expect these kidnappings to go. My wife thought it was similar to the movie proof of life with Meg Ryan. Got to say events like this and other reasons is why I keep my head moving when in many places I've been. Yea I think in Mexico I would carry.

The company dropped me an email today to let me know my grips were shipped this morning. Thanks Again.

Well, post a picture if you get them fitted. And let me know how they fit. If they're "close" I might follow your lead and order a set for myself. So I can "Indioize" my 6-shooter.

Will do. They spent all week traveling all the way from San Diego to LA. USPS must be a government operation LOL. I will likely be in Jacksonville North Carolina when they get here but will let you know how they fit and post pics when I get back in Mid February.

He does excellent work, although I didn't use him for my grips, just the internals and a trigger job.

Notified today that my grips are in US Customs purgatory. Waiting for the experts there to ensure these grips don't fit an evil assault weapon. Next up is our customs experts to do the same.

That is a beauty. Please share some details.

Quickdraw length barrel, case color hardened. I don't know when it was refinished. Built in 1876 according to the serial number. Rechambered in 45acp, with new internals and a trigger job. Black powder and cast lead only through her. Grips aren't perfect, but they're good enough for now.
