The Mountain Hunting Thread

And you’re back, good to remind myself periodically when I start warming to a post somewhere.

I believe a couple of you are clearly looking for the off topics. No dearth of willing adversaries there.

I live a curiously mobile existence that is really hard for certain mindsets to rationalise. If I enjoyed corresponding with you more these days, I’d talk the cabin and where my year is broken down between. But it’s feeling less and less like a conversation, so I think I’ll leave it at that. Fire away on the broadsides til you feel relief just forgive if they’re ignored, and you’re also welcome to contribute.

I’m virtually nomadic; essays aside ribbing is part of the fun. My work with Canada post has taken me all over BC including some of the large rocks this thread is about.

Back to mountain hunting!

Yep, it’s an ideal launchpad, those who snicker haven’t done it.

I spend the kids’ school year less winter work season on the central coast an hour outside Vancouver myself. Aviation’s the 20 minute ticket to wilderness, you’re in deep mountains by the time you’ve burned 10 gallons of fuel including takeoff. Fly 2 hours 45 mins and you’re at the cabin and old territory with no roads or humans anywhere by the time the coffee runs out. Fly 5 1/2 hours til you need fuel, a sandwich and piss and you’re in the Yukon.

Done those trips, dozens of times. I bought my first plane, a $3500 ultralight 21 years ago, I’ll aviate and explore until my medical gives out.

I’ll stop being a troll; maybe I’m just envious of anyone with a bit of elevation around them at the moment

Yukon and some Yukoners are waiting for you ... not now but when the snow will be gone we need some competition here for flying the locales ...

Don't be afraid to use the "ignore button," Angus. Things are more pleasant around here without the sniping of the envious.

^ if I’m envious of anything Ardent has it’s his presumably very understanding wife who doesn’t seem to mind him roaming around the bush

Besides that, meh. I have what I need and more, and have spent a lot of time in very cool remote areas around BC

Try to avoid using it Greg, think I have once over the years and can’t recall on who. Eventually I’ll hit my F it point and use it more, I’m headed for my now traditional forum sabbatical through the busy season and good weather shortly anyhow. Revisit the thought next winter.

Look forward to seeing what develops in the thread after the fall. :)

Question for ya all....

a few years back there was an old fella from maybe northern BC that posted a lot. He had a plane and ton of guns and hunted a ton. I think he had a ton of money as well. Can't remember his handle here, and haven't seen posting for a long time...

I think you’re thinking of Douglas. The gent that was also quiet experimental in his reloading. I think he got banned a few years back. I’m not sure what for. I enjoyed his posts.

he was more from the yukon then emigrated to bc. he worked hard and offered the job nobody was willing to do in the time manner ... his son is doing the same way.

always a joy to meet him.

Doug’s not afraid of a little velocity that’s for sure. His reloading room is in the basement and I’m pretty sure his wife loads a 12 foot drop tube from the upstairs living room.

I agree Evan, cheers to all of you in here mountain hunting with your daughters!

Last season, 22km of the ugliest bush Iv ever bashed to get to a mountain, my girl was happy to see the end of that

3 generations looking for rams

Chicken soup always tastes better above timberline, change her mind!

Do you hunt sheep in BC? Go support your WSSBC!

A month later found us chasing goats

But didn’t find the age we were looking for

Thank you Sir! Thats what were talking about!

Certainly not. Old Pete died of cancer a few years back.
