M40 Family - Who owns one?

I sold my M40A1 stupidly a year or so ago. Now I'm currently building this:

I sold some guns I buy again one year later.

So far, I've only have the stock (MacMillan M40A1) and barrell (Bartlein M24 profile 1-12)

Waiting for good opportunities for other parts.

This will be my son's first rifle.....

Finally got to take my "M40A5" out for a test drive. Factory Hornady 147gr match, 6 shots piled on top of each other.

I would be happy with that.

I finally got around to unpacking all of my loading gear since we moved, and made a batch of smk to see if I can get my rifle to shoot better than it was with the Federal-produced stuff.

I'm not an expert at making my own, don't know if I can do it better than factory. Didn't get a chance to try yet, finished them yesterday and had to go back to work today.

Hopefully this weekend.

So let's just say my last outing with the M40A5 wasn't the best. To make a long story short, the muzzle brake ended up 20 yards down range and a friend got smacked with a piece of a bullet while he was shooting 4 benches to my left. Everyone is ok but the barrel has to be shortened 3/4" and rethreaded.....

My daughter came home to visit for a couple days with her boyfriend (mostly to drop off all her belongings for storage) so we spent a few hours out on the range. I bought her the varmint barreled "A1" a couple years ago for Christmas, and we never found the time to actually get out shooting. She went away for school and things always got in the way.

Until today. Great afternoon, moving out of the city was one of the best things I've ever done.

I've got a bit of a range started, but I've had to annex my neighbor's field in order to place plates at longer ranges. We only stretch out to around 400 yds so far, but if they don't mind I will be going further.

Beautiful collection you have there! I always want to get my hands on a m40a1. Where did you find the Unertl/mst100 scope if you don't mind me asking?

Finally got to stretch my M40A5'ish build out to a kilometer. It was actually too easy with first round 5 out of 5 hits on the gong using factory ammo

I just got permission to put some steel targets up on my neighbor's land, so after ranging it out I will have targets at 100, 200, 320, 550, 740, 810, 975 and 1025 yds from the place where we set up. I could add another 300 yds by moving my setup to the southern property line of my place but that would bring the noise a little closer to my neighbors and I think it's an ambitious range already (for my skill level).

Those ranges are sort of random but they place the targets in positions on his field where there are natural obstructions that they have to farm around anyway, so I won't have to set them up and take them down seasonally.

Might be able to squeeze a couple more in, have to walk the quarter some more but I think it's a great start.

Best part is it's just behind my shop, so I can grab whatever I want and go shoot without driving a half hour.

The field is also loaded with whitetails, so that's a bonus.

Ok. So I acquired this M40a1 from one of the member here and I believe the rifle I have is the one from ArmedGinger based on the photos he posted in this thread. The rifle is very accurate and the scope works very well. However, I do want to know more about this rifle. Who built it originally? What components were used on this rifle? I have noticed the barrel is not HART and the stock has some texture around the forend area which is different compared to the HTG stocks marines used. The stock also has an extra stud for bipod mounting which is odd for a M40A1. The thumb relief cut is a bit too high which would be correct on the M40 but not necessarily for the A1 model.
Nevertheless, I enjoy this rifle very much and plan on using it as a shooter. I am still look into options to get a "clone" correct M40A1 in the future. I would really appreciate everyone's input and thoughts! Here are some photos of this baby with an AI AT308 and a remington M24.
