CZ Bren2 Owner: Info, Pics, Mods

I'm completely clueless about these rifles, I was just curious how that works. Does it mean once you convert an 11 to NR, you couldn't install the shorter barrel and convert back at a later date?

Not sure I see your point here. The 16" doesn't have the short gas system.

Marstar are converting the 11" which has the short gas system and as such will use a thinner profile (lighter) NR length barrel.

They were doing both until they sold out of the 16"

My post was just to inform people why some have a heavier barrel and weigh more after conversion.

Personally I would want a rifle as light as possible, we are already heavier than it should be with having to install the longer barrel

They converted both. Mine in the pic on the previous page is a converted 16" not 11"

I'm aware, I purchased one from Marstar so I have been following for some time.

Like many others I originally purchased a factory built NR but CZ couldn't deliver so that morphed into converted 16" & 11" rifles.

Full marks to Marstar for their efforts.

I believe they do as they bore out the gas port to adjust for this. At least that is what I was led to believe.

I spoke with Marstar and they explained that Dlask tested different sized gas ports for the short gas systems (basically started on the small side and drilled it out until they got reliable operation without being overgassed).

Well I finally ran into an issue with my 7.62x39 Bren 2.
Since replacing the handguard, stock and a few ergonomic bits I can't seem to cycle anything but Barnaul steel case through it without cycling issues.
Either doesn't cycle at all or FTE and jams.
Tried all gas settings, disassembled, lightly lubed, 3 different torque settings on the handguard screws etc. Guess it's time to swap the handguard back and see if there's a tolerance somewhere thats getting tweeked.

Have you scrubbed the chamber? Some of that lacquer from the steel cased stuff can be a #####.

I don't have a Bren, but ran into this with a 7.62x39 AR I had.

I've cleaned it all completely, ensured the gas ports weren't plugged as well. I wasn't leaning on the barnaul being the issue as I only switched to it after failures with norinco and geco brass case variants.

Have you seen the videos online in regards to the x39 bren having similar issues even in factory configuration? Think it was military arms channel, however a guy ended up getting his x39 bren running good by modifying a 5.56 gas regulator. Not sure if this helps, but I don't see the handguard causing this issue?

Sorry but I don't know where else to ask this question... are the Bren2 monolithic upper receivers between the 556 models and x39 models completely the same?

Can I swap the uppers interchangeably?

Monolithic implies a 1 piece receiver and handguard, the Bren 2 is separate pieces so not quite sure of the question. You can swap entire uppers onto a different lower if that's what you mean.
The only difference between the lowers is whether or not you have a stanag/ar mag adapter in your 7.62 to avoid the proprietary mag.

Sorry for my confusing question... but let me try to rephrase... hypothetically speaking, if I have a x39 Bren2 and a 556 Bren2... which parts do I need to harvest from my 556 Bren2 in order to convert my x39 Bren2 to shoot 556?
Asking because I am curious what parts are included in this CZ conversion kit: https://shop.cz-usa.com/37236532.html

Barrel, bolt carrier assembly ( or if you'd like to do it the painful way, swap bolt, firing pin, firing pin spring, extractor and spring into the other carrier) , gas plug, and mag well adapter into the lower
If you are swapping from a carbine you'd have to take the whole gas system and handguard

Well my Bren finally got the NR treatment in the form of a 18.6” Criterion barrel thru RDSC.

Slowly starting to turn into the GP/DMR style rifle I’m wanting

Accuracy has been great with handloads and the new barrel. My limiting factor currently is the optic.

Picked mine up today, going to shoot it tomorrow! Just an FYI, RDSC informed me they won’t be getting anymore in. The fella I spoke to said they are all being shipped to Ukraine and whatever they have a left in stock will be all they will have going forward. If you’re on the fence about getting one I would suggest moving quickly!
