280 AI - Does anyone else shoot this wildcat.

Maybe this was said before and I didn't find it.... the 280 ackley improved is no longer a "wild cat", it was SAAMI spec'd in 2007 by nosler. That's why it can be readily found with both factory ammo and factory clambering.

That aside. I own a standard 280 rem and have taken 2 elk and a moose with it and it's worked extremely well. My brother bought the reamer and is currently doing a 280ai. So as soon as I find a LEFT HANDED rem 700 stainless long action as a donor, I too will go to a 280ai. And it'll be even better than my standard 280!

the 280Ack , is there anything else , even factory loads
takes awhile for some
It's on the way to replace the 30-06

While the 280AI is a good cartridge, it does require on to handload to keep it fed. It's a fringe chambering at best.

Based on that fact alone, it will never replace the 30-06 in popularity. Guess again and best be cutting down on the gummie intake.

I've got a 280 AI for a couple reasons.
I sold my Ed Brown Savanah in 280 Remington and regretted doing so.
After selling I was sitting on several hundred 280 Remington cases and close to 100 rounds of loaded 280 Remington.
Solution? Easy.
Buy the Ed Brown clone in 280 AI built by Legendary Arms.
It digests and fireforms 280 cases like a dream.
One pronghorn to it's credit so far.
As others have said the 280 AI is a handloaders round but if you're set then it's a great project.

The 280 Ackley is an outstanding hunting cartridge, years back you could say it was a Hand loaders cartridge but today with several Nosler (6) factory options, Federal has 4 loaded options, Hornady has 1 and 1 more on the way, Weatherby also going to load factory ammo, It’s becoming more mainstream.

One of my favourite hunting cartridges, my custom 280AI is what I grab most when heading out the door.

Where can you find factory loaded these days?
What’s asking price?

Most gun shops dont carry it, it is not a common cartridge. Hence the reloading comments. Glad you have your commercial ammo sorted. - dan
