The next cartridge you would like Hornady to develop

I had a friend years ago that was a top tier silhouette shooter. His unlinted rifke was chambered in 6/222rem mag

It would reliably knock down the 500 meter rams , and he used it on a fewdeer as well.
I always found it a bit of a novelty , though. Simply because of the case capacity .

Dudes that get deep into one of the shooting games will tailor their cartridge so specifically for a single purpose that it's easy to get tunnel vision if you watch them. No different than the NRL/PRS craze going on convincing everyone that, because Jon Pynch and Austin Buschman shoot a 6 Dasher in a chassis to bang steel plates that their choices somehow translate into the hunting world, when in reality most hunters have no business taking a shot from over 200 yards away.

Bet they make better 200 meter shots with it than they would that traditional 30-06, 7mm magnum, or whatever they'd probably be carrying instead lol.

Except the chassis....will pass on that. Maybe it even gets em shooting a bit further out and interested in learning.

don't discount the chassis set up, the pistol grip ergo's and control has more to it that it looks, as a pure hunter only having given it a chance, by accident really, by getting a decent action into something that will a) make the garbage factory Mattel junk disappear but b) readily adjust to fit the kids....and then I started shooting the chassis set up, not heavy either, I built very lightweight chassis rigs to start, and then I actually took it to field on coyote calling and it impressed me even more...this is where I was more suspect if that would work

so after all that and you learn about why those ergo's for ar, military etc. then learn about the ergo's and control essentially advantages in every position of traditional sporting stocks from the long shooters/competitors and it's all pro for chassis, so people will slam the aluminium cold, or the weight of many set ups etc., but you can't slam the shoot ability from all positions of the chassis, advice is you can only know if you get behind it yourself and actually give it a shake...range and field, may surprise you, they promote and result better shooting all positions, if people haven't done that and still comment on it...well, we all have opinions and axxholes lol ;)

I was not expecting to like the chassis at all for anything other than just being adjustable lop and grow with kids, I can shoot either well enough, but it's easier to shoot well with the chassis ergo's.

Called the 6x47 Rem. Was a BR staple for years. I still have a couple rifles in that chambering. Very accurate cartridge. - dan

I'm liking where 6mm ARC is at, which seems to be the desired performance levels....but would the 6/222 mag fit in AR pattern mags, use a 223 bolt face, and could the brass be made from 223 Rem?

I don't think I've ever even seen one.

It's made from 222 Rem Mag (the cartridge Rem originally intended for the military) or 204 Ruger these days. Slightly more capacity than the 223, same bolt face. I like it. - dan

6 x 47 REM not 6 x 47 Lapua was pretty popular BR cartridge back in the Day ! Prior to the 6 PPC ! RJ

I wouldn't have to worry about that here. No one I know here fell for the 338 Fed hype. :)
Saying that, my hunting pard totes an old 77 tanger in 358W so he wins in the cool category.

Hoyt brought a couple of the neatest chamberings we had out on the coast, the .350 RM and the .358W. .350 raises my eyebrow, but I’m committed to .375 components wise.

I had a Cooey Model 71 yrs back with a 22" barrel chambered in 35-284 that worked fine for me. Same power level as 350 RM and 35 Whelen and 284 Win brass was easier to get back then. The 375-284 was a good wildcat for folks as well. Winchester should've adopted both of these 284 based cartridges back in in the 70's.

Lots of folks would've gone for a Model 70 carbine or Model 88 lever rifle chambered for these short action thumpers. These were the original "WSM's" basically.

Used my 350's on game a few times. Down to one now, but it works very, very well on any game I've tried it on. - dan

This thread is why hunters could never make up the hunting regulations.

This thread is full of degenerate gun guys, amateur tinkerers/machinists, and at.least one insomniac. Many semi loads of game harvested, by the same guys above, mostly with a ugly gun in a boring caliber.

Noone posting here, could be more clueless than whomever writes the BC regs.

Hey, they're not ugly if they work. ;) - dan
