Interesting ! How far away was this MOOSE ? Broad side Shots ?
Any BONDED bullet or MONO Will outperform a cup and core bullet . Cup and core usually Kill ok but make a mess as they tear apart . JMO RJ
It is Joey 53 gr HP hornadys at 100 -150 yards on whitetail go into the lungs and Kill but make a big mess . I should shot a deer sometime with my 223 8 twist with Barnes 55 or 62 gr TTSX and see .
Right now I’m Using my 6.5 Grendel with my 100 TTSX loads. I will report if I’m LUCKY enough to get a Whitey . RJ
There is so many great quality tough bullets out there, why going with something marginal? I mean I know people want to have those 1/2” groups at 100m but that’s not what is important here lol! After reading all the comments over the years about accubond aka accubomb, I was a little nervous when I chose it for my 8x57 for moose this year, but it did the trick, did it stayed together, I don’t know cause it went right through at 100m breaking ribs going in and going out!! Very little meat loss! The load is 200gn accubond going 2550fps! It worked well for me this time at that distance on that moose that day! I had tsx do a lot worst, once, on a different moose at a different distance….
Joel, thanks for the video! I like when tests are done at at least 100yards, way more realistic than at 15-20yards like it seams most do! There is an other guy doing great testing, not in gel though but still relèvent I believe,

I hunt exclusively with Hornady factory ammo. The last one was at 20-30 yards with the Precision Hunter ELD-X in 30-06 178gr. It was slightly quartering away. It hit a rib going in and exited the opposite shoulder after shattering the bone and turning that shoulder to mush. There is animals hit by trucks with less internal damage.

That matches my previous experience with ELD-X until last week on the moose.
Are you going to continue to use that ammo ? RJ
One important thing I consider when loading/buying ammo is bullet construction, I like a bullet that stays together as much as possible! Since I hunt for meat I like to save as much as I can, hence my choice of calibers and ammo/bullets and velocity!
No, probably not but I certainly would if they weren't so expensive.
I am an old guy that above all else wants a deer dead right there. Every yard counts when you are dragging and I am one of those dreaded snobs that only shoots mature bucks. The only shoulders I shoot at are on the opposite side of the animal and I want rapid expansion and a little fragmentation doesn't hurt either.
I generally hunt with Hornady Custom Interlocks as they just work and are stupid accurate in my rifle.
I also really like Superformance ammo with the SST bullets. These too are a little spendy but I picked up several boxes cheap over the years.
Finding a big difference in "drop em right away" performance due to bullet, and not solely placement?
Still young enough to drag em through hell's half acre if I need to, albeit cursing all the way, so I never really tried for anything besides vitals unless its pretty close lol
Kinda curious if the cheapest cup and core option in the store wont give you bang-flops if you put them in the same place as where these bullets do?

The .270 Winchester’s reputation was build upon soft, lazily constructed cup and cores from an era where bonded was still a corporate word that had nothing to do with bullets, launched with relatively unimpressive SD and high speed. It’s one of the most cited cartridges amongst guides as resulting in the least walking, and reduction of nasty recoveries, including our own WhyNot?. The Partition just adds reliability to that recipe, a quickly disrupting, soft bullet with the added benefit of a backup plan. I personally couldn’t distinguish the Partition from the Accubond in field performance, and many clients packed Accubonds.
I remain a mono user, due to my concerns about lead in meat. But I can’t deny the effect of a good Nosler at speed. I sometimes get interested in the thought of trying to make a mono on the lathe for experimenting Walter Hog style that disrupts much more quickly, and fragments more flexibly than the shattering of CEBs. Maybe one quiet winter.

Hammer bullets do that I think! They are meant to open, loose their petals in all directions and have the shank going deeper!!
There is lots of lead free options now( not many are readily available though) and even some that are starting to open at somewhat lower velocities!
I use to only shoot mono’s but when I started reloading there wasn’t any available around, so I bought some good old partions, Aframes, accubond sandstone cup and core round nose for my 7x57r!
But the day I can find good supplies of mono’s with the characteristics I want I might switch back!!
