The old 700 BDL varmint 222 wearing an equally old Leupold 16x in engraved Redfield rings and mount. Trying out some new BT loads, and working against its younger brother, another 700 in 223 in an original Plaster stock with a Millett 5-25 scope. 20231003_162326.jpg. A lovely day out at the range. - dan

Did this on my phone, no idea why the pics are upside down, sorry. ok, hopefully that fixed it.

Yes, it's a beauty, SuperCub. Most of the FN- and Sako-actioned Browning Safari rifles had nice wood (much of it Claro), but yours is better than most I've seen. Sako made the entire barreled-actions of the Vixen (.222)- and Forester (.243)-length actions with round-top form (without the Sako tapered dovetail) and shipped them to FN in Belgium for stocking. I think the stepped-barrel contour on the Browning Safaris is very attractive. They made the .222-class rifles with two different barrel contours--pencil and a little heavier (although not a true heavy barrel). I can't tell for sure from your pictures, but yours appears to be the pencil-barrel version.

It's close to a perfect walking-around varmint rifle--so much finer than what Browning is putting its name on these days.

Yes, it's a 22" pencil barrel 6.5lbs a shown. Some of those older Brownings were very nice firearms.
