CZ Bren2 Owner: Info, Pics, Mods

Unrelated but 7.62x39 Brens will SLAM FIRE under the right circumstances. I chambered a round, draped mag, ejected, and put that round back into the top of mag and as the bolt grabbed it, it slam fired.

4-5 moa.....what rifle configuration, optic and ammo?

What is a tight group? LOL Ive gotten 2-6 MOA standing with iron sights or 8 MOA hip-firing folded.

My 11" 7.62x39 does about 1-2 MOA at 50m with a Vortex Sparc solar (2 MOA red dot) both standing/off-hand or sitting with bipod. I mainly shoot 4" clays or steel, but also had fun blasting small mushrooms at the range. - This is with 123gr Berry's FMJs and various powders like H335, IMR 4198, AA-5744. I have run Hornady SSTs with slightly better accuracy but I wasn't chasing groups with loading those as much as finding something that cycled reliably and could give a friend for SKS deer hunting.

My 11" 5.56 with a 1-6x LVPO does 1 MOA no problem at 100m with bipod, linear comp, 62/69/70/77gr handholds with mainly CFE223. The 1 in 7' twist likes heavy projectiles. Need to try IMR 8208 XBR and some N140. Ive gotten 2-4MOA at 200m but wasn't happy with my holdover and wish I had 8x zoom or a spotting scope.

55gr FMJBT campro blasting is good for 1-2 MOA with CFE223. A 55gr FMJBT gave me a tighter group than a Speer 55gr SP. the Speer SP was 2 MOA cluster, and then I had a FMJBT group that was 1.5 MOA right next to it in a loose clover which was a fun comparison on paper.

I’m still pissed off about that and I haven’t shot it since I got it back.

Hopefully it is sorted out.

It's just strange to see people gravitate to an exception like yours where there clearly was a problem and try to use it as the rule when it comes to the accuracy of all bren2 rifles

Finally got my Bren2 out to the range. I have one of the 16" ones re-barreled by RDSC to 18.5". Functions flawlessly on multiple types of bulk ammo. Wasn't shooting for grouping but it can outshoot me at 100 yards (I was just supporting it on the mag, so not ideal for accuracy) but I was getting about a 6 inch grouping on a Razor 1-6X. So far quite happy.

You spent $5k on a gun to shoot 6 moa and you’re happy?

Thanks for making a newbie feel welcome! This must be the supportive shooting community I keep hearing about. And as a newer shooter to rifles I'll assume that your mocking was meant to say 6" at 110 yards isn't good but you can chock that up to this dumb newbie and not the weapon.

One thing to remember, everyone can apparently shoot less then 1 inch groups with their eyes closed at 500m.

Sorry if my post was confusing. I had a RDSC Bren and it shot terrible. It wasn’t a comment on your abilities.

Makes sense to me that the 16.5" to 18.5 conversions work well, not a big difference in length. 11" to 18.5 is significant, and I can see them needing more/lots of tweaking. Glad your enjoying yours PhilRO, they are dandy rifles. Try not to let the negative comments get to you; we live in strange times and some good men occasionally forget that their opinion is just that, their opinion.

Decided to sell the Type 81 to a good friend of mine who really wanted one and had a very hard time finding a reasonably priced one. Upgraded to a Bren 2 11" .223 from G4C and just went out with it last week for the first time. Super impressed with the rifle its a pleasure to shoot. Truly brilliant rifle, I love it.

No, 9" to 18.5" and works flawless with zero tweaking here.

Was there ever a non-US 16" Bren 2 imported to Canada? if so what are the differences other than the Kansas import markings?

Thanks
