All-New: Type 81M

Are there any plans on bringing in Myanmars GL variant? It would make for a pretty epic can launcher

I also kindov prefer the Type 81 over the VZ 58. The Type 81 has so much more character. I wasnt a fan of the VZs cast construction and rinky dink internal components. The trigger was mushy and had a reset that was hard to feel. The snappy recoil impulse was also less pleasant then the soft kerchunk of the Type 81. I also think the Type 81 looks better.

There is many things the VZ certainly does better. But sometimes novelty is more important then performance.

Here is my short and concise product review of the t81m underfolder.

-received a very nice underfolder. straight in every aspect. slight 1/4" "wobble" when fully open or closed, no side to side wobble... when open and shouldered the rifle does not wobble at all.
-watched utube and read some stuff about "Russian AK47 zero" , and wanted to see this method is applicable
-took it to some private property this weekend to test and enjoy

The information I have been digesting, ala utube, says that the russian method is to set a black rectangle (25cm wide X 35cm tall) on a white backboard at a distance of 100m/109yd.
You are to set your sight at 300m on the rifle, and POA = bottom "line" of the black rectangle (where black meets white on the backer) and aim dead centre of that line.
Using commonly available surplus corrosive ammo, the russian method says you should see point of impact 6-7" above the POA , approx in the dead centre of the black rectangle.

When you get your grouping in the centre of the black rectangle (sights @ 300m , shooting from 100m, aiming for bottom centre line) , then you should have it zero'd perfectly for 50/100m.
User to confirm at 50m and 100m, should hit bullseyes @ 50m or 100m , sights set to 100m .

Here are the results after slightly screwing down the front site post, approx 2 full turns (according to sources, one full turn down raises POI approx 8" up) ...

Disregarding the flier, and going with my friend who shot his 5, the rifle seems to be confirmed at 5-6 moa, with corrosive chinese surplus, which is to be expected and is satisfactory for this platform.
Unfortunately I didn't have any splatterburst paper targets to shoot. I definitely look forward to seeing what the rifle is capable of when fully dialed in.
We shot about 300 rounds, some slow, some as fast at possible and report ZERO MALFUNCTIONS. Not one issue. It goes bang. EVERY. TIME.

Thanks TI for making these available to us! BIG UP!

Thanks for the data. I never really understood doing all those extra steps just to end up with "the rifle is on at 100, when set to 100". Why not just zero at 100, using the 100 setting lol. Im jk a bit of course, honestly i do think this zeroing method was used so the conscript level troops in the cccp would be able to more easily aquire something remotely close to a proper sight picture which granted can be tough at 100m with a thicker front post, and i know they were told to keep their sights on the universal setting as they didn't trust most of them to be messing with the elevation at all. That said for this caliber I am a big fan of a 25m zero on the 200 setting, it puts you 5 inches high at 100, but only 2 inches low at 200, and about 15 inches low at 300 which is very practical, and the other elevation settings will more or less still function. I like to file down the front sight posts so the tip is a "pyramid" (appears as a triangle in sight picture regardless of when you rotate it to raise/lower elevation when zeroing) gives you a super fine point of aim, and really helps getting a good zero at 25m. If people are like me and just like their rifle of this type to be able to hit a steel silhouette aiming center of mass out to about 300, id really recommend trying out this zeroing technique.

I think I'd have to pick the VZ overall just because its so darned light and handy. But you are 100% correct its trigger is super mushy. Also i have personally had 2 vz 58 bolts rapidly disassemble themselves while i was shooting the gun...extractor and the little pin that holds it in and the spring went flying out. Both were 5.56 versions so i just assumed it was some issue related to the gun being chambered in a cartridge it wasnt designed for. Both repaired under warranty. The 7.62 guns never had an issue for me other than the trigger gremlin on the 858's. T81 has a nicer trigger and has been more reliable for me, and the parts are definitely beefier, but at the cost of extra weight and not quite as handy. Love them both.

Whats the latest numbers update? I see a few in the 29### going to processing, I'm in the 285xx, went to processing a week ago but no movement since. Let's get back to posting updates and pics.

Remember reading in a scanned old article, though I can't find the link now, that the Type 81 was designed to have a more controllable recoil impulse at full auto then an AK. It is a happy coincidence that this also makes for a smoother, more pleasant semi-automatic recoil impulse :) .

I think I prefer the Type 81 over the VZ 58, the safety on the t81 is an awful design though. Who ever thought to put a 180 degree safety on it should be slapped on the wrist with a ruler

Gonna be honest, I'm a Type 97 and Glock owner I just got used to leaving it on fire all the time. I just don't use safeties very often, except for AR style ones

bro we don't all have the attitude of whatever.
my goal is to at least put some pressure on TI to inspect the merchandize. i'm speaking for a lot of people that have the same concern i do, not everyone will be happy with something as long as it makes noise. i think it is the responsibility of TI to send out near perfect merchandise. i didn't see on their site before ordering saying that these have barrel variance, crooked or missing parts, most 99.99% of buyers expect a good inspected product.
Please go away…

Please go away…

yeah. are you even old enough to own firearms?
this is not the playground we are not making sand castles here, and kids like you don't want to play with me because i have common sense.
if you don't like what i have to say you go away, don't read my comments lol
typical liberal mentality if you don't like to hear it shut it down because we all have to agree here.
i don't agree. and the adults here don't agree as well, lol

I'm bringing lots of value to intelligent people not so much to low IQ
Every time you open your mouth our IQ drops significantly…. Like it’s been said many times already.. you are annoying with your constant whining. Besides being extremely aggravating you don’t add anything useful to this forum..

You are a funny guy… you would do great as a stand up comedian.. you joined little over 3 months ago so far zero trader rating and 68 posts, big percentage of them bashing TI…. Keep up the “adult” work and lead us to the light so we don’t have to wander aimlessly in the dark..;)

Man cgn is going downhill fast lately. Take your stress out somewhere else, this is a firearms community. Zdragunov has been a member since 2009 with a flawless feedback score, chances are he is 'old enough'.

I don’t think anything really changed… same story same people just the rifles are different. Someone always have to complain about something… if it’s not the m305 then it was the type97 and so on… why can’t we just be happy about these beautiful rifles. They are not perfect but what is… end of rant.. let’s go back to the order#/shipping dates and possible upgrade discussions… lot more fun
