The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 OWNERS thread.

Hello Fellow FX9 Owners,

I took mine to the range today for the first time (~200 rounds). It ran well with only one exception. FTF when mags are loaded with 8+ rounds, looking into the chamber it looked as if the magazine situated low. The bolt runs freely back and forth without touching the round. At first, I tried re-inserting the magazine but that didn't work. Only after removing a round I can see that the rounds pop back high enough for the bolt to catch. I have used 10 rounds and 17/10 P-mags and the one SGM supplied by the manufacturer. I am puzzled by the consistency of the error. Any suggestions will be very appreciated.

P.S. The issue does not seem to be related to the ammo as I tried several types all with the same results.

It is the notch in the mag follower, not the rounds that force the Mag catch to work. Read my post above yours. Welcome to the FX9. I found in my gun the only mags that were 100% reliable in forcing the Mag catch up to catch the bolt were SHK 10/32 mags. If you contact Freedom Ordnance they will tell you it is weak Mag springs in 10 rd mags made for Canada. Which is silly but there you go. Fiddle around and find a make of mags that will work in your gun or glue a piece of plastic in the notch in the followers. Shape it with a grinder and your mags will all function as they should. Worked for me, your experience might be different.

Thanks Bob. Could you please post a sample photo of the mag follower to visualize the modification.

Best Regards.

Has anyone replaced their factory barrel due to damaged rifling? I have a Gen1 that has seen at least 2k of 124g campros through it. The rifling was damaged about 6" from the muzzle. I have no idea how.

How does the gun shoot? Accurate? If it remains accurate out to 50 yards, why replace it?

Where does the grace period for registering a firearm that has changed classes via modification factor in? I didn’t hear him mention that aspect.

At home. Very unfortunate the way the law is written. Before Trudeau I never would have cared about guns being in the restricted category, as the status quo for bans was always grandfathering, but with confiscation threats it’s kind of changed the Canadian firearm landscape forever, though one could argue they’ve just proven it’s never going to be a possibility. I’m sure there’s many others like me who may never bother with the entire restricted category ever again. Maybe the CPC could pass a bill ensuring confiscations aren’t allowed in the event of future bans? That would be nice.

The probability of the Govt seizing a rifle they don't know exists likely falls somewhere between winning the 649 and the Loto Max. While the lawyer does set out a significant risk IF enforced I see no reason to follow this advice under the present set of circumstances. First it most certainly will all go away with a change of government and registration is forever even if the new government removes or significantly changes registration criteria. Most here are not convinced the LGR data has been destroyed despite the fact the data would be compromised by time.

Do what you will.

That's only because your bolt catch isn't fully caught. Get mags that will push the catch lever fully up and your gun will work as it should. Mine works with SHK 10/32 Korean mags. I have not found any other brands that will work until you either send in your carbine to Wolverine where they will bend the lever so it works with "some" other brands of mags or you fill in the notch located in you Glock mags. They actual need a piece of plastic slightly higher than just filling in the notch.

The bolt hold open lever, where it meets the follower is just not long enough to work properly.

Ps do a Google search. SHK mags are pretty cheap in the US. The issue is finding someone to pin them to 10 rds.

Ya I know about the follower issue just haven’t tried to fix that.
Exactly opposite with the follower on my Vector would hold open with 1 left.
Maybe someone could 3D print followers for some spare$

Full capacity (pinned) Glock Gen 5 mags (orange follower) and +10% Wolff springs seems to be a cure. Without the Wolff spring they also work, but not always 100%
One man's experience....inconsistency seems to be somewhat consistent across different FX9s. :)
