VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

Matty P, what do you mean when you say it's quite accurate? I had a friend shoot his the other week and he had difficulty hitting a dinner plate sized target from 30 meters. He and I both hit the same target at more than triple this distance with other rifles, so the fault was completely his. I don't find the CZ-858 that accurate at all..

your friend cant shoot a dinner plate at 30 m? well, tells us alot about your friends shooting abilty. :D

I also find the gun takes a long time to clean because of the corrosive nature.

cant have it both ways bud, you can choose either cheap corrosive ammo ($.18) or more expensive non-corrosive ammo ($.70) , take your pick.

Was your friend using iron sights? Maybe they were off from the factory? I remember my iron sights were junk (had to aim to the right lol). That was fixed when I installed the scout mount though (it has a channel that acts as a rear iron when the rail isn't on). With optics it's game over.

PS, a little birdie told me we're gonna have very similar 10/22 builds :D;)

The cz858 takes a long time to clean?! Do it a couple times then you'll get the hang of it. As for accuracy, if I can hit a man sized target at 400m I'm sure the rifle is more than capable of hitting a dinner plate at 30m.

That said, does anyone know if there is some sort of sight that is similar to the C79 Elcan with adjustments for different ranges but calibrated for 7.62x39?

Either he got a dud or he is a dud. 30m with a dinner plate can be shot from the hip.:D

Anyone ever notice variations with the folding stocks?

He was using iron sights. I may have to get one of those scout mounts you're talking about. The CZ-858 just doesn't seem that tactical to me without some kickass optics.

May be he needs shouting lessons

In other news, Nine has recommended that I sand down the furniture and spray some bedliner on the stock. Do you guys have any recommendations for doing this? I think this would look great with the AK-74 brake Kasat made me over the weekend, it'll be on my doorstep tomorrow afternoon! :D

I reccomend great distance from the bedliner gun to parts it gives it a more pebbled look than coarse texture. Or you could thin the bedliner and spray it out of a heavy primer gun for little to no texture(can even be sanded and rubbed for no texture then scrubbed with comet to remove gloss)

After making one for "ilovepotoatos" ( it was his idea !!!) I fell in love with this design and made one for myself too....... just a bit different (in case we find ourselves at the same range one day) to avoid mix up:D
