Still waiting on a pistol.....

So, I bought my Wife a pistol a while back. Went through a company to transfer it, though it was a private sale. Officially it's been over 2 years now. My Wife has phoned a few times, and "it's on the desk". I'd like to see this dang desk!

Should she just phone every couple days now? Report a pistol "stolen/missing" due to CFO inaction? Is there some overseeing representative to kick some rear ends in gear?

Getting awful sick of waiting. No further information is needed from our end, and this long a wait is absolutely ridiculous.

Advice appreciated! Thanks!

Are you sure that it's ever going to get processed? Are you contacting the "transferring company" or the CFO for information? I would call/write/fax the CFO to get the information directly.

Maybe they processed it after the freeze and now waiting for paperwork if your legally exempt.
I would be contacting the business. Who says they even have the gun aanymore. Was it one of those BCL pistols that nobody got yet?

If it's with the CFO, file a complaint with your member of parliament to push it along. It it hasn't reached the CFO yet, it seems like you got scammed?

Interesting...I would assume you are still in contact with the seller as technically he/she is still in possession of the pistol as they will also need to wait in order to ship/transfer it to you.

I would contact the seller if possible and get your money back.

Sorry, I typed it out in a bit of a hurry and didn't include very much information.

The pistol transfer was begun before the ban, so it should have no issues going through. This was back in June of 2022.

Private seller, with good rep. Communication has been done with the CFO directly several times, and they have all the information.

BCL pistols? I don't recall hearing about those. What happened there?

Oh I'm sure it's being processed fully after the ban, but as long as it was initiated before the ban, there was supposed to be no problem with it going through. And that's their word on it also.

Time to send a FOI request...
I don't know what I'd even want to ask?

Maybe: "Why's your department so useless?" Or: "Do you people ever get tired of spinning your chairs, put down the donuts and get to work??" Perhaps: "Please disclose a picture of this massive desk that all our paperwork sits on...and the highly motivated individual that works to clear the desk."

Have touched base a few times to see if maybe he had received any information.

At this point he probably isn't the owner either, and we would have cancel a transfer together and them what? Would he be waiting 2 years before it's his again?

I don't want the money back; I want the pistol I bought for my Wife to be delivered. It's not as if I can just buy a different one now, in it's stead. Who even knows if the money is still there? Could've been needed and spent.

A lot can happen in a couple years. People could pass away, move, fall victim to natural disaster....

Maddening that a rubber stamp type thing can take this long. We're monitored every day, we're not criminals, and I don't think my Wife has even had a speeding ticket in several years.

Just don't understand this delay. Trying to wait until licenses expire, or what?

You’re leaving out some important details.
When the seller initiates a transfer with the CFC, he’s given a reference number to be given to the buyer. The buyer then contacts the CFC with this reference number to complete the transfer.
Did you get a reference number from the seller and call in to the CFC to complete the transfer?
If not you’re sol, I would think.

Of course. I didn't think it needed to be said, and have bought and sold a number of restricted guns.

Like I said; all the information and initiated well before the freeze. That's always the first thing they ask for; the reference number.

People were assigned serial numbers for guns not finished in production, to try and sell before the freeze. So people still haven't got their guns yet.

It must been a consignment gun? As you said it was a private sale but went thru a company.

No it wasn't consignment. Private sale, but in the huge rush for everyone to get the pistols they always wanted, it was next to impossible to get through by phone.

There was a company that was initiating transfers for a small fee and that was supposed to possibly be much easier/faster. Apparently not.

I bought another one for my Wife IIRC after that, and it was approved fairly fast and shipped.

I think I actually bought a few after that with no issues.

Something's not right. I've faxed the CFO's office to have transfers processed the same day. Is that normal, no, but 2 years? Your transfer isn't being processed. Rubber stamps aren't coming. Simply put, no one is working on transferring that handgun. You're going to have to aggressively investigate the reason for which it is being delayed. Don't accept any excuses. To be honest, I don't think you'll ever get that gun at this point, but I hope I'm wrong.

Yes, I've had fairly quick transfers as well.

It's my Wife who has to call, but it's absolutely ridiculous.

She has to sit on the line for an extended period and they know it's been a long time, but there seems to be no urgency on their end.

One of the last times, I suggested that she tell them she was about ready to report it stolen. They urged her not to, but still no approval!

Are you saying she hasn’t called in to complete the transfer yet after receiving a reference number from the seller, or trying to call in to see why the transfer hasn’t been approved yet?

Some of your info in this story are coming in drips and drabs so it’s hard to figure out what’s going on.

I think he trying to say that his wife has to call and inquire about where it it etc. As they probably won't help as he isn't the firearm recipient. Just a venting husband.
