Still waiting on a pistol.....

Are you saying she hasn’t called in to complete the transfer yet after receiving a reference number from the seller, or trying to call in to see why the transfer hasn’t been approved yet?

Some of your info in this story are coming in drips and drabs so it’s hard to figure out what’s going on.
Sorry; though I was a little more clear on this.

I bought the gun for my Wife about midway through June 2022. Actually made the deal for her, and she sent the money which was received. The seller initiated the first part of the transfer from his end, and my Wife received a transfer number, as it was going into her name. I do not believe she had to call to complete it as it would be with most private deals. Was near impossible to get through by phone at the time.

She did manage to get through after a couple other ones I bought were approved and delivered. And she asked whether they were missing information, or if there was anything she had to do from her end.

It was confirmed that they had all the information, everything was complete, it was sitting on the desk, and all she had to do was wait. Exact same thing every time she called.

Is anything not clear at this point?

Call your local MP if the AB CFO is holding it up

I believe it was our provincial CFO that she's talked to every time.

I've never had so much trouble transferring a gun. Or heard about anyone else waiting this long either.
I’m still a bit confused. You said “ I do not believe she had to call to complete it as it would be with most private deals. Was near impossible to get through by phone at the time.”

Of course she had to call to complete the transfer. That’s how it’s supposed to be. Yes, it was hard to get through, tell me about it, but it had to be done.

Then you said “I believe it was our provincial CFO that she's talked to every time.”

I’ve completed numerous transfers over the years and only called the CFC to complete the transfer, never the provincial CFO. Seems different than my experience.

Never had to call to complete a transfer when I've bought from a store. Not that I can recall anyway.

I've always called the Edmonton firearms office, and they've transferred me to wherever I needed.

Regardless of the difficulties of getting through, when she did finally talk to a live person, she was told that it was all good and nothing needed from her.

So one pretty neat thing about the firearms office's dithering, is that they're really fostering a long term relationship between our seller and us.

I'll say hi from time to time: wish him a happy new year and so forth. Exchange pleasantries and trade information. We're really gettin' to know each other! He's been great and has phoned a few times himself and they just don't tell him much.

Found out a funny thing tonight concerning some of his sales. He told my Wife that he's got 3 more (I think) transfers that have been waiting over a year and a half. The CFO doesn't say much except it's in the provincial branches hand's. So that's interesting!

Ok, this is definitely getting confusing but from what I can piece together...

1) You brokered a private deal for your wife to purchase a handgun pre-freeze.

2) You paid a company to complete the transfer because at that time the phones were crazy busy (normally, all private sales must be completed by the buyer, unlike retail sales).

3) That company completed the transfer and confirmed that they had done so on your wife's behalf? Probably...

4) You've been waiting 2 years for the transfer to go through.

I think, although I can't be sure, that your wife has been talking to the CFP, not the CFO. Again, I honestly have to think that at this point there is something seriously wrong with the transfer. You're missing something. If this situation was occurring with any type of regularity we probably would have seen a bunch of threads on the topic (maybe I just didn't see them?).

If another member of this forum can confirm that they are in a similar situation then at least you'll know you aren't the only one.

So he has others outstsnding...indicates something wrong on his end and they are not sharing with you. Investigation in progress perhaps.....

Well I misremembered how the transfer happened.

We used a paper form downloaded. We filled out all the stuff for the buyer; the seller filled out all the stuff on his end, and it was overnighted to Mirimachi.
As well as faxed.

The seller has indicated that Mirimachi has approved it, and passed it over to the provincial office.

And the Alberta office has indicated everything is good....so yes it's very confusing.

You’re making it more confusing with each post. You said you’ve never had to call to complete a transfer when buying from a store, agreed, neither have I.

But then you said;
“So, I bought my Wife a pistol a while back. Went through a company to transfer it, though it was a private sale.”

So…. In actual fact it was a private sale as she ( or you) received a reference number and if that reference number wasn’t used by her to call in to complete the transfer, it was never completed. That’s the way I see it after piecing together segments of your posts.

It was a long time ago now, and some of the details were fuzzy, but there is no need to tie ourselves into knots to make it more complicated.

I have corrected my recollection of it. The seller and my Wife jointly completed a notice/application of transfer negating having to call in.

This was a private sale. I always said this was a private sale, but at the time there was an option to have a store process your transfer for a fee. Upon going back through my correspondence we did not use this service.

My Wife received her transfer number. There was no need to call, but she did with the number to check on the status. Repeatedly, as well as the seller also.
They were both told that there was nothing further needed, and they had all the information.

It seems to be approved in Mirimachi, and then sent back to the provincial office for final approval and processing.

We got it in, and they said it's good and happening, but we just have to wait.

That's as simple as I can break it down. What I don't get is what the hold up is? I'd understand if there was missing information....but nothing!

I wouldn't count on the seller for anything at this point. I would contact the CFO directly (NOT the CFP) if you haven't done so already. Most CFO offices don't have a direct phone number people can call, so I would send a fax asking them to confirm that the transfer is still in progress. Make sure you provide your full address and phone number so they can contact you if necessary.

The CFP will keep telling you everything's great because they're just service agents. FAX THE CFO's OFFICE AND ASK THEM TO CONFIRM THAT THE TRANSFER IS STILL IN PROGRESS!!! Anything other than doing so is a waste of your time.

There's almost zero chance that this transfer is going to get processed but, like I said before, I hope I'm wrong.

Agreed. The Alberta CFO should be able to put this story to bed in short order, I would think.

My experience with texting my Ontario CFO has been great when I’ve needed something and the Alberta CFO is a gun enthusiast on a personal level so it should be a no brainer to get a proper answer.

Well, an email to the Alberta CFO just went out, so we'll see what the response is.

I'm not exactly counting on the seller to do anything. Good fella to communicate with, well over a hundred positive feedback score, and just went above and beyond to try to get things happening.

I'm confident that everything was entered correctly, as we were told so.

No reason it shouldn't go through. Only matters when it was initiated, which was well before the cutoff.

I hope so! I just have no idea what's happening to hold things up. If there was missing information it would have been noted, we have the reference number and all of that.

Should be very straightforward and relatively quick.

What a fuk.ked up story, the CFO is as likely as confused as everyone in this thread.

There is zero clarity in the information provided.

BCL pistols? I don't recall hearing about those. What happened there?

Oh I'm sure it's being processed fully after the ban, but as long as it was initiated before the ban, there was supposed to be no problem with it going through. And that's their word on it also.
Nope. As soon as the ban came into effect anything not already transferred, won't be transferred. I argued ad nauseum with them regarding a similar situation. The CFO even asked me for evidence I'd started the transfer prior to the cut off. I provided it, and then they told me to pound sand.
Your wife will never see that gun.
