Still waiting on a pistol.....

Nope. As soon as the ban came into effect anything not already transferred, won't be transferred. I argued ad nauseum with them regarding a similar situation. The CFO even asked me for evidence I'd started the transfer prior to the cut off. I provided it, and then they told me to pound sand.
Your wife will never see that gun.
Not true. There is a whole thread of guys from Ontario who were getting approvals in December and later for transfers, despite the freeze coming into effect in October. Approvals were still coming in February and March at the least:

B2P approved today:

59754###
Received July 22, 2022
Approved Dec 19, 2022

P2P July 22 59746xx
Dec 19 complete

Initiated: August 2
Approved: Dec 28

Last one.....finally.
Initiated July 30, 59832xx, approved today, Jan 04.
I'm gonna miss checking this thread religiously EVERY DAY for the last few months, lol
Cheers

Wrong. Nobody knew the exact date this would happen, and as long as it was initiated it was supposed to be completed.

In fact we did receive a notice of transfer in December 2022.

Was even a case where someone wanted to transfer their son a pistol and but the CFP mess up issuing the license or something they said sorry you didnt meet the cut off. Father fought them and won. Son got a pistol transfered to them.

I mean Ontario was still completing transfers 2 years after the ban that was initially started pre ban.

What a fuk.ked up story, the CFO is as likely as confused as everyone in this thread.

There is zero clarity in the information provided.
What? Would a transfer reference number make it more clear?

The TLDR version:

Transfer initiated July 2022.
Transfer acknowledged as being properly initiated with completed information and underway.
Still have not received notice of completion.

The confusing part is why.

The CFO should be the least confused about that.

You need to talk to the CFO. Not the CFP. The Alberta CFO. The CFO does not have a publicly listed phone number, so either you will need to know their extension (I only know BCs, so can't help you there) or you will need to call the CFP and have them transfer you. They are the ones who approve the transfer, so they should be able to tell you what is going on.

edit - A reddit thread from 10 years ago claims the Alberta CFO extension is 9026. No idea if that is accurate, but worth a try.

My Wife has been phoning, and fairly sure that she was transferred to the AB CFO. The only answer she's gotten is it's on the desk waiting. Highly frustrating, and it seems it'll have to be pursued more aggressively.

Hmm... seems like I had a number for the extension. Thanks for that.

An email was sent, to the Alberta office, but still waiting for a reply a bit over 2 days now.

Normally I wouldn't get uptight about waiting a couple days for a response, but taking this long to begin with is agitating.

Seems it'll have to be escalated to the next level.

I skimmed over some of the posts, Something is screwed up.
I have done business transfers as well as personal transfers.
Business transfers, the customer does not need to phone, unless the P.CFO needs a copy of a range membership, or info is needed.
A lot of times it can be a mistake in a phone number or a mailing/ street address, p code.
They will not phone you to ask for this. You have to check if it is taking too long.

Private sales, always the buyer is to phone in , if she does not it will not be completed.
If you have a reference number, it will be sitting in Edmonton now, not down East.
You say she has phoned and its on the cfo's desk, I bet it's not anywhere, if it was ,it would have been done a year or 2 ago.
Last sale I did just before the end , the transfer was completed in Jan , so less then a year, and that went to Ont.
Sk. sales where getting done in a month or so, most times.

Another confusing post. If the notice of transfer is in your wife’s name show it to the seller and have him put it in the mail.

Different pistol guys!

It's like you're not even trying!
Uh huh...where's the pistol then? Lol.
Bought several pistols around that time, and that was one of mine.

Like some of us said ....

Not the first R that was purchased 😅

Why would I even start a thread if I got a notice of transfer?? 🤪
Your OP was very lacking of details and you slipped in more details in various posts so it was very confusing as to what firearm or transaction you were referring to. If your query to the CFP and CFO was as confusing as this thread, that might account for the mixup.

absolutely FALSE,,as long as transfers were called in up until the last minute of the ban, they were processed same as always,i did quite a few of them until the last hour,ALL of them were completed,no problem, took them a long time because they got flooded with 1000's of transfers in the last few weeks, fun times,
sure wish people would get their information right before spewing off wrong info,

Where's the gun then? Nevermind your nonsense, look at the facts. The OP doesn't have the gun (transfer denied), and the same thing happened to me. No transfer.

I said I got "A" letter of transfer in December. I didn't think I'd have to explain that, but it was for a different pistol.

I got that, approving the transfer of that particular pistol in December of the same year.

Have done a pile of transfers and a number of them leading up to the ban. The CFO gets both names PAL numbers, addresses, pistol model, serial number.... about the only information they don't have is the colour of my shorts!! THEY are the last people that should be confused. If they are, they have have phone numbers and emails. If they are confused by that, what is the point of their jobs or registration?

I received the approval for a different gun from another deal the December after the ban.

In the case of a denial, shouldn't a person get some notice??

In your case, was it selling a pistol that wasn't even built yet? Very confusing posts. A lot of information missing. Little bits coming in on drips and drabs....to paraphrase..😜

I was transfering to a sibling. I don't recall the date, but Oct 22nd sticks in my head for some reason, so let's use that date. As I recall, no one knew when this Oct. 22 cut off date would occur. By happenstance, I initiated the transfer on the 21st (my gun). Next day, the freeze came into effect and initially "they" stated anything not transferred as of 12.01AM on the 22nd, wouldn't be, and there was an uproar. "They" then stated that any transfers that were initiated before 12.01AM of the 22nd, would carry through! GOLD! I thought. Nah, my sibling called to complete, they said no. I called to inquire, they said no. I insisted that I had met their criteria, they wanted proof, so I provided it...then they said no.

My sibling is without the pistol, and it's still in my name and my lock up. Sorry to say, but despite whatever some guys are telling you, I'm telling you they are not transferring any pistols that weren't transferred before the cut off date. Typical bureaucratic incompetence is what it is, and PP will reverse it, as he despises nonsense. We'll have to wait. Until then, your wife, and my sibling will have to borrow.
