TACCOM24 Sterling arms R18 mk3 .223

By "not really" are we to take that to mean that there is enough difference between the MK2 and MK3 lower receivers that that a MK3 upper will not fit on a MK2 lower? Or does it mean parts like bolts, barrels and such are not interchangeable between the MK2 and MK3?
The MK3 really is a complete redesign and improvement on the MK2. Except for the stock adapter, trigger and muzzle brake; the rest is different and needed to be. The MK2 was overly complicated, which is one reason why it was so expensive to machine.

Wondering why no top charging handle like the Akdas 223? Was it to keep the FRT as-is and avoid having the platform look like a scary AR15?

That was partly the reason, as the rifle design cannnot stray too far from its AR180B and R18 Mk2 lineage and still maintain the same (child entry) NR FRT. The other principal consideration was cost. For every extra $1 spent on the factory floor, the retail price goes up by $2. There was a deliberate effort made to reduce costs and keep to the $1800 target.

Is there any chance of offering the rifle with a milspec trigger (un-installed, in bag, to save the labor time)? Trigger tech is nice but a worked in milspec is fine for me and could cut a couple hundred off.

Can you please make a suggestion to SAI to have an foldable charging handle as an option or upgrade?

This is highly doubtful as SAI will not be selling directly to the public, but through a dealer network. So you won't be able to communicate your special order to SAI, who will be very busy pumping.out 200 rifles per.month anyways. I highly doubt that the factory would entertain special orders such as yours in the first place. The R18 Mk3 is not a small-batch gun made to order for each customer like the Raven.

Your best bet will be.to sell the TriggerTech that comes with the R18 and replace it with a cheap milspec trigger mechanism after the fact.

Gotcha, I figured everything was assembled here in Canada and TSE was responsible for final assembly, etc, wasnt sure if they had plans to offer any kind of variations to the final product. Good for stream lining I guess. I'm anxiously awaiting part 2 of your review, I have good feelings about the project but have seen way too many early adopters of canadian rifles be treated as guinea pigs.

The hand guard is definitely a take away from the 416/417 the way it interfaces with the nut, are 416 handguard compatible with the mk3? You just absolutely demolished the competition if so, plenty of aftermarket options

I just tried my HK416 Geissele URX Handguard on the R18 Mk3. Unfortunately, the MK3's Barrel Nut diameter is just a hair too large to accept the HK Handguard. I have advised JR Cox of my finding and suggested that Sterling make their Barrel Nut HK-compatible for the reason you mentioned.
