I am trying out this matching wood cheek rest. Its still more of à chin rest but at least its not cold to the face.. i doubt anything taller than this will work with the underfolder... if the riser is any taller, you'll need to twist your had pretty bad to get to the center line. But this one works and looks good. I left the top of the cheek rest paralel to the bore/reveiver, didnt want to follow the stock slant.
I havnt secured it to tne stock arm yet, still thinking of the best way to do that, might just drill and tap and bolt it on. We'll see..

Question, what bi-pod is that? How is it mounted?
 
Would be cool if someone made something like the definitive arms conversion here for the 81

 
Is the gas regular on the T81M supposed to be tight and has discernable click when switching positions with a casing? Mine does not click into place when on a gas setting. It can be rotated by hand. Should I contact warranty or is this by design?

No, the gas regulator turns quite freely without any discernible clicks. Particularly without the gas cover (upper handguard) installed.
With the gas cover installed, the regulator does not turn freely due to the friction and downward pressure of the handguard. The regulator will require a casing or tool to move between gas settings with gas cover/handguard in place.
The regulator has a series of small detents that catch and lock the handguard into its correct position.

I have the TI M Lok handguard on my Type 81M. Should the MLok handguard make the gas regulator tighter or does only the wood handguard does that? My T81SA has the M Lok handguard but the regulator is tight and needs a casing to move.

are you sure you dont have the top piece on backward
 
The finish is poor and tolerance high on these, I'm happy we have them in Canada, but compared to the CZ58 we used to have here , those are cheaply made and overpriced. The handguard, dust cover, magasine play I've seen was not something I would put 1600$+ on.

They should go for a lower resell pricepoint for the quality of the product in my opinion, but I would get a decent one if the price is right.

So, I did some cosmetic overhauling to my underfolder. Sanded down and refinished the wood, brought up the grain significantly and stained it to match my SR. Rounded off the bottom handguard, while still keeping the swell.. i still need to finish the wood with 4-5 coats of polyurethane, hopefully tomorrow.
I also polish the factory finish on all the metal to get rid of the blemeshes and scratches i had, and then gave it a sort of weathered or battle worn finish. I used cold blue to balance it out and give it a bit more depth. It turned out great so far, finish doesnt feel like BBQ paint anymore and much smoother to touch. I really dig the new loo

Yes, I just checked. I am missing the spring and screw inside the top handguard. I have the plate. How do I fix this? Now I understand how that spring was holding the gas regulator tightly.

Id like to think with the VZ 58s the price we payed was mainly cost to produce, where as with the Type 81s the price is mainly acquisition costs. Where the Type 81 lacks in fit and finish it kindov makes up for with robustness. The VZ58s had nice fit and finish, but also alot of fragile cast stuff. There was a good amount of paranoia over cracked striker pieces and ejector fins. Before the ban i spent hundreds buying spare parts from Dlask in anticipation of a breakage. Havent felt compelled to do the same with any of my Type 81s. I miss the accuracy and magazine system of the VZ 58 tho. Bolt release was nice as well but Type 81s will have that feature soon enough ;)

Everything Murray said I agree fully with.

Especially when it came to the newer CSA VZ58 rifles.
The OEM CZH/CZ/FSN were all bomb proof tho.

The T81s are almost like tanks when it comes to metallurgy
