WHY isn't an SKS "Restricted"

Cartridge is the only thing in common. Gas, magazine and bolt systems, trigger mechanisms are different.

I'd go for the Gun Digest thing, as far as one can apply reason to insanity.
I like the photo of the restricted Browning 1922 beside the prohib MAS in the Toronto Star, that's why I have a pair of 1922's :).

My guess - full size wooden stock, no pistol grip and no detachable mag saved it. The powers were too ignorant to remember about SKS-D.
Now you probably are going to ask me why SVT is not restricted?

Re: The Gun's Digest comment...

This is actually true. There is an article out there written by one of the people who undertook the ban after the ecole polytechnique massacre (may Lepine's name be forever followed by people spitting on the ground). This PC (Not liberal) guy was one of the guys who went through guns digest and said 'that looks scary' and banned everything.

It was the Kim Campbell PC's who did it, not the Liberals (although they suck too).

Stephen Harper is not anti-gun though. I know this because I flat out asked him. I've met him twice, he's a nice guy, and he's relatively supportive of guys like us who like to go and victimize some innocent paper.

First the " Marc Lepine" name was a media invention, his REAL surname was Gharbi, Gamil Grarbi to be exact. Second C-17 which was about the OKA/Kanesatake and eventually Kawnawake crisis, and the full blown panic that followed among political circles. BTW I was there, heard the occasional gunshot across the river while I was a student at College Bouget in Rigaud and I even convinced my father to take me up to the barricages in Kanawahke once so I could see for myself what it was all about. What I saw was CF armored vehicles messing up people's lawns here and there, fully manned missile (I then assumed were TOW but these days I think were ERYX) emplacements sitting on top of gas stations on both side of the road, and downrange about 200 yard were two Ryder rental trucks blocking the road at about a 45 degree angle, one on each side of the road, with two guys sitting on top of them, one on each truck, sitting on patio chairs complete with umbrellas with AK's proubly displayed and waving at the public, sur as myself, who went up to the barricades.

The "polythechnique" incident was at best a politically convenient excuse toi attempt to make sure that such an incident would never happen again. Third, C-68 which we blame as the source of all evil was a CONSERVATIVE idea, not a Liberal one, Jean Chretien's Liberal simply adopted C68 which was merely an early version of C-17. I wonder how many MP's and "political advisers" are still lingering within the CPC's ranks to this day. Let's just say I trust today's CPC about as much as I trusted the PCC (Progessive Consinvative Party of Canada) which were followed by Jean Chretien's Liberal Government.

I own an SKS-D and am puzzled as to "WHY" they are not restriced!

I have read on the CFC site that "Type 56" firearms are "restricted".

The SKS is supposed to be a Type 56 and is the predecessor to the AK-47, therefore why didn't the Lieberals classify it as restricted or even prohibited for that matter?

Mind you, I do not wish it to be restricted, but am curious as to the "why". The Liberals prohibited 4" barrels, .25 & .32 calibre among just some of their stupidities.

Did the lowly SKS pass under their radar?

IN China, one is the type 56 rifle, the other is type 56 carbine.
The "predecessor to the AK" just means the AK replaced the SKS as the front line issued arm in russia. Lke the M16 replaced the M14....neither have anything in common with thier "predecessor".
Hell, the AK and SKS were not even designed by the same guy, the only thing they share in common is the cartridge and ####ty sights. Completly different lock up, different trigger group, different everything.
And it wouldn't have been restricted, it would have been prohibited if it was on the list. Only 1 rifle is prescribed restricted by name....AR15.

It's not freakin restricted because it shouldn't be. If you look at the definitions of what makes a rifle restricted the damn SKS does not qualify, period. It's no different than a Browning BAR or a Remington 742! It really gets me going when crap like this comes up...

They already banned .22 cal. rifles, the squires Bingham M16 & Jaeger AP 80, be cause they look like a military rifle. Even though they have no similar parts or operating system, Just shows what happened when 2 women (Wendy & Kimie) get a little power, but no brains.
Remember a liberal vote is a vote to take away your guns!

The AK 47 in russian The S.K.S. is chinise by design. yea i know some SKS's were made in russia, but have as much in common as the Winchester 94 and a Remington rifles, they shoot, but thats it!!! the ak & sks are completly different guns. and they both shoot the same cal. as my mini 30!!!!
WHAT THE F-CK IS THE DIFFERANCE?? DON'T GIVE THESE IDOT'S REASON TO START MORE LIBERAL/COMMIE LIKE GUNS BANS. SHUT THE HELL UP!!! :slap:

The SKS was based on a pre-existing semi-auto anti tank rifle scaled down of course. The PTRS which fired the powerful Soviet 14.5X114mm rd also used as a long range sniper rifle against personal and unarmoured vehicals.Harold

SKS is a 100% soviet designed rifle. The Chinese didn't start copying them for 11 years after introduction.

And the idiots don't need a reason. They'll just keep doing what idiots do.
