As a carryover from my post in the Husqvarna thread.
This is a Husqvarna in 8x57 that seems to have threaded holes drilled thru the receiver.
Why was it done ? deactivation ? strange scope mount ? .
Altho the real question remains.... Would you shoot it?

Hmmm maybe ha it’s a good question!! I would bring it to a reputable gunsmith and have him to inspect it throughout and then ask him the question 😂

It was in a intersurplus batch I got so who knows how it ended up like that. I will probably clamp it down and fire some hot 8mm surplus out of it too see if it cracks. Shame the barrel is in quite nice shape.

I wouldn't be thrilled to get that drilled gun from Intersurplus!
It should not have been sold as a functioning firearm.

Send it back!

Anyone read their return policy?
I have taken the liberty to hi-lite in red the issue of damages .
They seem like a pretty reputable company and offer a wide variety of goods with a well thought out refund policy.
To the Op, send it back if you are concerned , your loss will be the shipping costs, but peace of mind about safety is worth it in my addled mind this the third day of 2025.

Checked 2 I have and both drilled through. I have shot them without issue. Pops had one also yrs ago and it was drilled also so hear is something to pay attention to
If mounting scope bases and using locktite, remove the bolt incase there is too much locktite used and runs and bolt. It would be a great challenge to cycle the bolt if it sets up😉

That’s what I’d expect, look at every 12g with holes for a rail or some of the modern pic rail mounts for old milsurps. The two holes over the Mosin 91/30 of the rock solid mounts for example, the one over the chamber is a blind threaded hole. The one just I front of the chamber is a through hole.

I think it was drilled to provide an escape for gas if a case ruptured. But then somebody came along and put a plug in the hole. The plug bothers me more than the hole, if a case ruptures the screw might become a projectile. The hole itself does not appear to be in a critical area that weakens anything.
