6.5 Creedmoor?

I have killed with a lot of different calibers and a lot of different game. The creedmoor was the worst performance I have ever seen.
Then your shot placement and bullet choice was wrong for the game you chose to shoot at.....:(

I have heard these stories time and time again at my gun-shop over a four year period.

Bullet failure and wrong caliber choice is rarely the reason for failure.

It's human error and the guy pulling the trigger......:(

-Extremely easy to find accurate loads for.

-Most 6.5mm projectiles we’ve tried have been accurate, regardless of weight. Usually with a 4350 burn rate powder. We’ve had success with H4350, IMR4451, and StaBall6.5.

-Yes, multiple moose & elk, lots of deer. They reacted by dying quickly. ;)

What bullet and at what velocity are you getting? I’m thinking of using 6.5CM for elk and would like to compare notes

Since the longest world record WT was shot with a 25-20 how anybody can say just about any other rifle cartridge is not adequate is hilarious. I can't have a man bun with shorter then service hair.

Shocker!!! I'm thinking of purchasing a rifle chambered in this cartridge. I'm aware that they are equal to the 6.5 Swede, however there appears to be more of them for sale.
Just a few questions:
-Are they easy to handload for accuracy?
-What was your best weight bullet for accuracy?
-Who has killed big game with them and how did the animal react?
Thanks!
Gary

You can get a used Husqvarna, Voere, Pre-Sako Tikka, etc. for under $800 in 6.5x55 that will be twice the rifle you'll get new in 6.5cm for $2500. Just something to consider.

To answer your other questions:

hand loading the 6.5cm is no easier or harder than any other standard cf cartridge.

Best bullet will depend on your target, range and purpose.

Quality 140's will drop game up to moose size no problem - the SD of those bullets is very high and deer and moose are not hard to kill. Should be fine for black bears too - for bigger and/or more dangerous animals (big bears for example), I'd choose something else.

Enjoy your new rifle!

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. The rifle, which I haven't purchased yet, will solely be used for deer. I was thinking of the Sako S20 or Benelli Lupo.

I love mine and have shot everything from coyotes to moose with it. Kills stuff as good as anything else. I use mono bullets exclusively, which I know you're not a fan of but they work very well for me. I never really intended to purchase a rifle chambered in it, I was just looking for a Montana in a lighter recoiling chambering than the one I have in .338 Federal. I actually wanted one in 7-08 but I happened to find a brand new one in 6.5CM for what most were asking for used ones, so that's what I went with. Easy to reload for, accurate, low recoil and easy to come by components. It's nothing magical or special, it's just a good little round.

It will do anything a Swede will do and that’s not a bad place to be.

Real nice geometry to fit in a short action for efficiency and accuracy as well as factory availability that rivals 30-06-270-243 it’s very very hard to go WRONG with the CM.

I’m a very dyed in the wool Swede fan having always had one or two around for the last 25 years or so. I let a large amount of PRIDE stand in the way of a great big EASY BUTTON when it comes to 6.5s and the CM

Same can be said about the 6cm and the .243 along with the 22cm compared to the 22-250.

Hornady hit the nail square on the head and knocked it out of the park. I’m just far to damn stubborn and set in my ways to give in. After all this time the CM might still be just a fad you know! 😎

Given the reputation and history of 6.5mm hunting rifles/cartridges like 6.5x54 MS and the Swede being pressed into hunting use, and all the big game they have dropped all over the world, its kinda funny to hear the 6.5 CM called "deer rifle at best".

Lots of people here on the forum laying out bigger game than that.

I have a LOT of rifles, every speed demon you can imagine and then some. Not sure how it happened but somehow 9 6.5 Creedmoor rifles took up residence here. Girlfriend has a couple more. If they didn’t work on everything up to moose I wouldn’t have any Creedmoors around. Don’t even need to reload for good ammo. It doesn’t get any easier than that. Also have 6.5 x55 and 260 rifles that haven’t been used in years….
