Norinco NR-15 Bolt-Action 22LR New Arrival

Initial impressions of the NR-15.

The owners manual states that the 10 firearm safety rules must be etched to your memory before you begin to handle firearms:) the manual is in English, German and French.

Serial # TH24047* CN-24-THA. The receiver, bolt and barrel are numbered. The barrel is free floated from the front action screw forward and tapered from .750 to .575 with a clean crown. The thread protector is composite like the stock, which is quite comfortable and balances nicely just ahead of the magazine. I have to scrunch down to get a sight picture so an chin weld is unlikely using a scope. Sling studs are included in the box.

The quality of the machining, blueing and overall feel is very close to the Scorpio 322X, like 90% close. The magazines are all metal, similar in width to a Savage Mark II and uses a catch at top front to lock into place.

Trigger is 2.25 lbs. out of the box. and while not Tikka smooth there is very little grit working the bolt.

Overall I am impressed. Will see how it performs and then decide if it stays or off to the table at the next gun show.

Either polish the bolt, knocking the sharp edges off or just pour a whiskey and sit in front of the TV and cycle the bolt 200-500 times; it will smooth out quickly. ( or put a brick of ammo through it). These are good rifles.

Hey guys how do you find the rifle? Have you had a chance to shoot it yet?

Function tested today. 35 yards resting off the hood of the truck and managed to keep 5 shot groups measuring an inch with the irons. The bolt is getting smoother with use, now on par with my savage mk II.

The irons were on and I did not have to make any adjustments. Mags feed perfectly when loaded with the max 9 rounds. Extraction is positive and no failures were encountered. While the trigger is lightish (2.25 lbs) there is no wall before it breaks. Just a smooth travel and surprise!

Will try to mount some glass on top and see what it can do at fifty. I believe this gun has potential.

Looks like I will be buying one sounds awesome. I think this is Norincos new 22lr bolt action so the tooling should be newer. Where as the JW-15s that are coming in now use tooling from the 90s that is noticably starting to turn out guns out of spec and rougher.

Have you shot the gun again recently and would like to update your feelings on it? Thanks.

So far this .22 continues to impress.

The mags do not drop free but feed well. There is no evidence of shaving off lead when loading and extraction is positive.

Seems to have a cold bore flyer that prints 3/4 of an inch above point of aim then settles in.

The trigger while smooth has a lot of travel, like 3 mm. I seem to get the best results taking up most of the creep and then just committing to shot.
It likes the Norm Tac 22 red box. The above groups were shot at 50 yards with a Bushnell Engage set at 14x.

She has a lot of potential! I am a little puzzled at the change in the magazines, the earlier JWs would accept CZ 10 shot mags, and the CZ would accept their 10s but not their 5s. Regardless, I think you have a good rifle.
